Turbocharging the RS2000 I4
I know this has been done a few times now, Kenny at MSD built a grey one, and there was the red 4x4 in Performance Ford a few months ago.
Now, what I'm asking about here is whats involved in this. Obviously pistons will need to be replaced with lower compression forged items, but any guesses on the capability of the rods? Crank?
Managment, can the original stuff be re-mapped to cope, or is a complete managment change required.
The 'box is an MTX75 IIRC, which could handle the power I'm sure, but can you get a decent diff for it?
Share the info boys and girls

Custom, there are no pistons off the shelf that will surfice, its a 86mm bore if i remember, and dont listen to people who say calibra turbo or astra gte pistons fit cause they dont, Ł600 for forged items

Okay mate, cheers for that.
I might try it on the original pistons with a decompression plate, and see how I get on. Then I can always go for forged pistons if I melt them

Why??
Surely its a better option to go the 16v Zetec route? Parts avilability and knowledge is far better than the I4.....
I personally would waste my time and money turbo charging one on the standard cast pistons and a de-compression plate

Why not? Loads of people do this with zetecs?
I've had 9 RS Turbos.... I just fancied doing something different. And the Mk6 RS2K is a nice looking car, and they handle quite well.
I'll probably end up with another red Rst........

nowt to tell really
standard engine, inlet was a cossie one, exhaust I made myself, including manifold, was about 220bhp, went alright, and the engine now lives in my mates garage

Well, if it was a low comp sooper dooper thing I would, but I'd be putting it in a FWD car so not really applicable.
As it's just a standard engine I could use the original engine in the RS2K I might buy....
Like I said, I'll probably end up with RS Turbo number 10

check out jasons (aka lord vador) on RS2000-16v.com
301bhp, turbo'd I4, red 4x4 RS2k mk6
quality motor
speak to him or HT racing (or engineering) they're called i think
down south, do loads of stuff with the I4 engine

If it was me....I would still buy the RS2k but I'd stick a conventional 16v 2 litre turbo into it....that would be a cool car
Reasons:
Parts availability
Knowledge Resourse
Turbocharging the engine has already been developed
Turboing the I4 is a relative unknown....for me I wouldn't risk wasting my money [I prefer driving them not building them ]

Can I make a suggestion?
If it's the look of the Mk6 escort your after but want it Turbo'd, why not go for a GTi? they run a zetec engine, so you would then have a relative simple swap to ZT!! and have the looks of the 2k!!
Bish bash bosh....Job Done

Jasons car is a 2.3 Galaxy motor, off the shelf JE forged low compression pistons are available for the 2.3 thanks to Ian who is building a Lysholm screw type supercharged RS2300 4x4 with a Mistsubishi Evo gearbox and Jason who has turbocharged the 2.3. Why piss about with a small engine when a bigger one fits the same space and the parts are available ?

for the 2000 16 I4 you want pistons like this as same bottom end as 2000 8v I4
made in the states complete with gapless rings to suit the 8 valve head for 635 quid, and they are forged items with custom cnc machining, pistin crown thickness is 10mm
i am currently running 19psi now on a cossie stage 2 T3 turbo mbe management and calibra turbo injectors
