Shipping a car from america

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Actual cost of shipping: Between £800 and £1200 depends whether RoRo or Container.
Plus cost of getting car from place of sale to US docks.
Plus 10% import duty on value of car Plus shipping
Plus dockside handling and storage fees.
Plus agents fees for handling paperwork.
On top of all that add 17.5%VAT.
Then cost of getting car to home.
Its still a cheap way to get a car though as the starting price is low, depending on model.

I think its around £1500-£2k in total (depending what car) If you are buying something over £15k then i'd understand - but if its just a £5k car i'd say its more hassel than its worth.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
i bought a limousine over there and shipped it over myself, cost about £1500 for shipping and insurance, then had to pay £200 to get the container removed and taken to a depot, then a couple of hundred quid for clearance / paperwork, then duty and vat! The Sva and mot!! Still worked out far cheaper than buying here!
