Default wireless internet...

I want to go wireless with my internet so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house (and outside now I've got my shed built lol) rather than being chained to the USB cable like I am at the mo...

but I haven't got a clue what bits I need or any ideas on the cost...

Can someone point me in the right direction with the parts I need and cost?

What make and model is the laptop?
You should also google wireless home setup and read up on it as its one thing to buy the parts and get it going but another when it suddenly doesnt work one day and you dont know why.
I run a D Link G604T Wireless router and my Dell laptop has wireless built in. Once the router is setup for your internet connection, just assign a key and when your laptop searchs, punch in the key. With a bit of luck it will retain the key in the laptop so anytime you are within range, it will connect.

Do a search on here as well, plenty of threads on it.

BTW - I am on wireless in the loungeroom with a beer and the TV and its great

My laptop is a Compaq Evo N1020v...

I've got a feeling it hasn't got wireless built in, is that a problem?

Wes

Yes, if it doesn't have it inbuilt, you'll need to buy a PCMCIA wireless card for the laptop as well as the wireless router. Usually the best way to do it is to buy from the same makers, tend to have less trouble that way.

Cheers

Matt
