Karl

Turbosystems

Motorsport developements

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Karl's a tiny bloke

Tony's a sarcastic bastard

Stu is most likely bigger than you

So you see; all have their downsides too

i would ring around and talk to them all and then decide.

All could be too busy to fit you in and some may be more expensive than others, all these things are to be considered.

Its under 3k and what you have learnt from that other thread is new loom is always helpfull, as is the mapper and biulder in house you wont get the problems like you have seen.

or Harvey at scs or what ever its called...

Had quite a bit of work done on my old turbo.

couldnt fault the bloke for service and workmanship....Car went in a bag of crap and came out a very fast rs turbo indeed....Ok my wallet was raped for well over 2k (which didnt include turbo or block/head) but then it was all well worth it...

I quite like his bluntness, he calls a spade a spade and with me only told me what i needed to know not aload of bollocks......

That sounds alot i would be surprised if it was that much to be honest not doubting you or anything,

As you can read from the Richie thread alot of people recomened new looms etc and i am sure Mark does the same, I think every body mentioned can build good engines and has done, i am also sure they have had a few bad ones,

The most important thing for me is to feel comfortable with them and trust them what every you have done is a lot of money no doubt why not talk to them all and see who you feel most comfortable with and i am sure you will natrually gravitate towards a perticular one based on there attitude and way they are with you,

MARK: i would do a new loom without question,im mates with tristan who used to work for field and he has always said to me if i do a build to do a loom. im also mates with kirstin who,s black esc turbo you build years ago and i know he was happy, also friends with dave(yum) so i know you have a good rep.ive been told by a few people that autronic was dear, must admit i have never asked dave.

CAPTAIN MIKE: i agree with you there! i must get on with who i do go to eventually becuase im a firm believer in a good relationship of customer and client.and if i think the builder is snotty i wont like it but i do appreciate they know their job,but i wouldnt like to be bullied into stuff just so they can take my cash.

also im worried about box choice as i have a 4x4 saff and want big power.

When you take in to account that you could sell your old loom,Ecu,Mapsensor injectors and a couple of other parts the Autronic isnt that bad

Getting along with them is the most important thing, oh and them having good tea and chocolate biscuits for when you are waiting,

I think like Mark said he does it all in house and so would Harvey if you had T2/T6 Pectel,

But do a search and see how many people have waited for Ahmed to map there car seems like ages and i am sure they are not all down to money,

If it is done by one person you have easier recourse you did it it broke you fix it, rather then the blame game,

Mike

If you are friends with Tristan why not Field ?

Thats what I like about Julian Godfrey, he does everything in house, plus he is only down the road from me which is an even bigger bonus lol.
I always feel welcome when I go down there and always give there time for a chat

Captain Mike
he dont work there anymore and i dont really know much on tommy.i know he can build mental motors, but i dont know anyone with a big power one or if reliable. i know that sounds stupid, big power and reliable but i couldnt afford to do it twice if it shit itself! thats a big worry for me, iknow its not an every day car but would like it to last a while.

got to pop out soon so if i go i'll come back later to see responses.

..ok my input here..and remember i deal with most the tuners..

...all my advice for my DIY engine was from Mark MAD and Jullian Godfrey...with mapping input from Karl Norris..

...so who would i use to get an engine built if i decieded to give up DIY?

MADevelopments.....purely because he always answers the phone and is helpful even if i dont spend any money with him...Jullian Godfrey also and Karl ..BUT i would use MAD for the engine build...

..i know my input means shit as i got no respect ..but i actually deal with these guys and have maybe a better understanding than most on who i feel is good....not taking ANYTHING away from any other tuner not mentioned..this is just an honest reply from MY experience...or maybe i am a homo and fancy Mark..ROFLMAO

Boschman: Why would you have a better understanding than most? You actually deal with these people?

And you are the only person that does so? What dealings do you have that others don't? You sell them Bosch-parts? You pester them for advice?
Only to ignore it later?

Personally, if I was having a big power engine built then I'd go to Bob Murray of Bob Murray Engines, contactable through Automotive Unlimited.

He's an engine builder you never hear anything about because his customers arent the sort of people who go on bulletin boards bleating about how great they are.

He built the engine thats in Terry Storeys Moonstone 500, see the article in the Fast Ford Cosworth 4 special.

Harvey @ SCS for me, always given me excellent value, service & advice - for me this means I've never needed to try anyone else, even though there's a good few to choose from (Martin, Stu etc. etc.).

Almsost ANY business that's been around a fair old while and served lots of customers is going to have some negative stories.....only thing you can do is ring around, speak to people and make your own mind up about who you feel happy with.

I guess I'm lucky compared to some who've been through just about every tuner there is before finding the one(s) they feel happiest with.

Only person i generally get to build my engines is chip-3door, cause i get free labour off him

If i was to go to someone else though it would be either Stu@MSD or Mark@MAD

The reasons being that both of them are:
Very professional
Extremely good at what they do
Friendly and helpful to talk to
Have proven themselves on engines for people i know.

Would also go to Karl or Harvey, but i dont know them personally like i do Stu/Mark, so for that reason I dont know as much about them and what they do.

For building up a whole car if i had really deep pockets, it would have to be Reyland though

One thing to remember, when you do chose a tuner, make sure absolutely EVERYTHING is done through them if they are building you an expensive engine. Any little problems etc should always go back to them.

Remember to get everything changed, including fuel pump, filter and wiring to the fuel pump etc. BUilding the engine is only half the job, to make it reliable there is a lot more to do!
