Shit I feel old all of a sudden, but WTF are:
Applied ICT
Citizenship

And since when have these been GSCE subjects ??
Leisure and Tourism
Media Studies
ECDL Level 2 (GCSE Equivalent)

When did Design Technology go so diverse? We did DT (everything) not DT (Resistant Materials)

What happened to people doing proper subjects like PE and Music

Congratulations to you both on the results.

Edited to add: I found Applied ICT: (COMPUTERS)
and Citizenship (Sociology) Why do they have to change the names when the subject matter is the same.

Thing is, nowaday you don't even need to bribe a teacher to get good coursework marks. Just stick your name at the top of the paper and....... ta-daaaa.... instant A grade!!!

A* if you spell your name right.

(Think I'm gena regret starting off on this )

yeah theres always one!

so what if they are easier nowadays. they've just shown they can jump through the hoops set by the education system and fair play for them for doing it so well! a post of congrats rather than sly digs would be nice to see for a change!

or try working your arse off in the months leading up to coursework deadlines for a 30 A3 page DT design folder, a 50 page media studies folder, 6 3 page history essays, 8 4 page english essays, 2 15 page mathematic coursework folders, neumerous experimental investigations for science, as well as exam revision.

now tell me exams are getting easier. coursework gets sent off to exam board, so tell me that we can cheat. they took the top folder from each subject, then random ones. mine got took on every one, so it had to be perfect.

thanks to everyone else who commented! with DT i think they found they would get better results from letting pupils specialise in a certain subject. i'm no jamie oliver so cooking was out for me, lol. Media studies, we were the second year to do it. citizenship is PHSE, just life in general, lol. Didnt do PE cos a) im no david beckham, and b) it was BTEC, which i hear most employers dont know what they are, and when they find out that they dont include an exam, find them a bit disturbing! lol.

theres been people with 19 and 20 GCSEs, but most of them are from BTECs, which i think is just a cheating way of putting up exam results! none in there for me thank you! all mine were mainly exam dependent!

Cheers guys and congrats to all those who got theirs, well done. i understand how much pressure you are under to achieve at a time when you want to relax and enjoy yourself!

I wasn't haven't a dig at the kids doing what they're told and jumping through the hoops put in front of them. It's the government and the way education standards have plumeted over the years that I have a problem with. My wife is a college lecturer and gets kids all the time who've passed GCSE English and Maths and can't even do the basics.

If I caused offence to any people who've got the GCSE's they hoped for then I apologize and congratulations to Labour for screwing the country's future over.

FFS! What are schools coming to?! Besides the fact that some of subjects are BS the difficulty of these exams has dropped through the freakin floor! In the good old days the idea was to lift everyone up to a certain level not keep the level near the floor

And another thing it used to be that an A was the top 5% of people above a certain score - now its jsut above a certain % which in no way defines the cream of the crop it jsut depends on the moderator getting the difficulty right.

same here. our science and english block burnt down at the end of year 10, so we had to redo english, science and my bro did media again. then half way through year 11 they decided to switch english exam boards, meaning that we had to do loads more coursework!

BTW, to get an A* you need at least 92% in most subjects. some of you make me laugh, its because your kids will be getting better than you did what bothers you.

Oh yeah and me and my bro are members of the National academy of gifted and talented youths, only open to the top 2% of the population. so we must be thick!

RapidRS

fair point it is the governments fault and not the kids. but any time people rubbish the difficulty levels its like pissing on what they have achieved and the day after their results its not the best!

point taken about not being able to do the basics! dont know if you watched big bro but they asked glyn what the sum of the angles of a triangle was. he said 360 and he got a A* at GCSE and he's only 18!!

cramming for an exam - getting the good grade - then forgetting everything you know isnt the best way for a future in industry that needs some mathematical knowledge for example! its like what is the point of 10+ years of education to get to GCSE level!
