This Copper has been let off today for doing 159 mph back in Dec 2003. The appeal judge says he is not going to be prosecuted as he has suffered enough through all the court appearances he has had to go through. My heart bleeds for him. One rule for them one for us comes to mind.
What you lot think?

whats 91 in a 30 got to do with it?
wasn't he doing 159 in a 70?
Personally i don't care tbh, i look at it as say for instance my kids were in danger or something and i needed a copper there quick, if that meant him doing over double the speed limit to get there then so be it.
Now i understand this wasn't a emergancey call and he was just joy-riding to be fair however, i think someone who is experienced with going fast and knows how the car reacts at such speeds is going to be safer behind the wheel doing those speeds in an emergancey situation.

thats what its got to go with it.
think 91 in a 30 is much more dangerous than 157 in a 70.

what, he wasnt on an emergency though so lets let racing drivers go as fast as they like
Oh right, i didn't know that.
Does anyone know where this road actually is [and not the M54] as i know of a few 30limit roads that aren't built up areas/no schools etc where you can happily go alot faster as you can see ahead and know within reason theres no danger ahead. Motorway roadworks for example, providing theres no workers at the side of the road and no other traffic, then whats the problem of speeding?
I'd be really suprised if the 30 limit he wwas speeding in was a built up area/middle of town or something as it sounds like the kind of headline a paper like the sun would come up with and when you start to look at the facts you realise there isn't actually anything that shocking about it.

159 in a 70
91 in a 30
131 in a 70
at 3am.
How many here have been stopped in the early hours and been prosecuted.
Bang out of order in my view.
Speeding is speeding whoever you are!

I personally know a guy who wrote traffic law act and road transport act here in Poland + some smaller regulations and I know how mamny colliding interests have to by satisfied by such law, group of interests etc. Press is bad this days for motorists and everyone is obsessed with safety and ecology - thus speed limits. That's all.
I often have impression reading passionford that you guys have been work on by safety propaganda for far too many years and don't consider those things free of it.
By the way what is the point of owning car faster then Smart if you really obey all those?
Once again - polease consider that I'm strange rally nut from far away country with extremly high car-accident mortality rate and road network similar to that of Britain's in XIX century.
I was being sarcastic, but you are right, far too many Brits seem to think of the law as being infallible. Mike R posted a TRL (IE Government funded) study a while back showing that 3% of RTA's are due to speed. And on your final point, I really have no idea.

I was picking up '99 Scooby Turbo from Holland recently - it only started to go properly around Dormund, so after ~500km's - > was so used to slow driving. At the same time 7 year old car with 106k km's was like new. Probably never went on boost too
I dont think he'll be able to stay working as a traffic cop if he's been done for dangerous driving.
So losing the job he probably loves is punishment enough I reckon. How many people have been allowed to keep their licenses because their job etc depends on it?

think its a joke really as said previously why should it be one rule for us n another for them ,
To those that condone(sp) this i dont think u would feel the same if someone u loved etc were to be knocked down and killed by this or any other copper driving like this because they can get away with it as has happened before now..........

dreamin: apart form having my full back up that supporting olicemen's behavious is beeing hypocrite in this situations I really think you're going too far. Who is he going to overrun on motorway @ 3 AM?!??!?!
I know that human imagination has no limits but let's stay realistic. Only pedestrian there will be lost parachutist

doing mroe than 30 over the limit normally results in a ban
just because he's got some lines on his jumper dones't mean he's above the law
even if it had been a proper shout, those sorts of speeds in the areas he's been doing them in is in no way shape or form setting a responsible example to everyone else
how many times have you seen police camera action and prats going down the roads at silly speeds?
and how many times have you seen the results when the hit something?
and how many times has a speeding mototrist been admonished for "driving like a moron, just imagine if you had a blow out and you crashed, the cost of the ambulance, hat your family would feel like" the whole guilt trip, whats wrong in this case? just because he's a coper don't mean to say he won't hit a rabbit on the road or a bird or any sort of sthi like that
the least he should have got was a ban, even if it was only for a short while, plus points on his license to go afterwards so that they could show the public that even the police aren't beyond the reach of the laws they are supopsed to enforce
oh well, more fuel for the fire started by the "different rules for them" brigade
may it burn well

It is 1 rule for us and one for them.

If anyone gets caught doing 100mph on a motorway it's an instant ban.
I think he should get the same plus more for the speeds he done and obviously bullshitting about why he was doing it

Several of my mates got done a week before and a week after me, we all had to goto court and all got 6 points and a fine. All our ave speed was over 100 mph and these were all separate incidents on different days. Was back in 1998 tho.

Just watched the news
he was found GUILTY ..BUT will not have any punishment as
apparently he has 'suffered enough' with all the press ETC..
so they did find him guilty. and he is appealing!
still serving as a traffic cop.
