Default how do you fit your metal headgasket?????

i normally do mine dry & don't have any issues, but a buddy reckons its better to use a smear of grease, i used to do this on some of the paper gaskets on the moto x bikes buy never on a metal gasket......
i may put the head on my engine later & the coonts put a bit of doubt in my mind now

As long as the surface is perfect then bone dry as you originally thought Matt.

On occasion i have used a special aircraft grade sealant on imperfect surfaces with no problem, but it certainly was NOT grease...

thats what i always thought, a smear of grease to get a good seal on some paper gaskets, but not head gaskets, esp metal ones!

Stu @ M Developments why your here, i put a post up earlier, referance ybp sumps, should they have the baffle with the square hole that the pick up go's through???
i know the 4x4 had one but not sure of the late escos because it had the windage tray.

As Stu said, i've used special head-gasket sealer stuff before with no problems to good effect. You just brush it on to the block, fit the gasket then brush it on the gasket and torque down the head.

Deffo wouldn't use grease though.
