I have a UT T38 on the kitchen floor at home.

They and this turbo got recomended from multiple sources

Shame my engine wont run for another six months or so or I could tell you what it actually runs like rather than just what it it looks like, which is very nice by the way

thats the exact variant of the T38 i had, supplied from steve scott.

a brilliant step up from my T34 i previoulsy had, cant fault its characteristics atall

and to be honest i hardly noticed any difference in the spool up time from changing to T38 from the T34

Exactly as stated, and that my old Turbo

Luke - the T38 only comes with a .63 housing, no options are available for it.
my T34 was also on a .63 housing before hand.

i like that variant of the T38 that much that im droping my plans of going silly power and breaking the bank and going back to the T38 again!

For prices your better off speaking to Steve Scott, or what about the one you say has come up?

Luke. universals only do the one version of the T38.

other manufacterers make there own aswell, ie:- Turbo Technics etc

This is the TT T38

and the UT T38

.

if your not running your engine with any head work you may find the TT T38 to suffer a small amount of stalling/surging due to its compressor size!
where as the UT T38 in that case would suit your engine alot better!

They supplied him with totaly the wrong turbo for his application!!!

he was fuming, the only reason he hasnt took the stickers off, for fear of taking the paint off his race car........!!!!!!!!!!

He not amused at all

He now runs a trusty T4 turbo.

I would not recomend Universal.

Turbo Dynamics for me and as far as a T38 goes, the Turbo Technics unit is the one for me, just short of size and power output of a T4.

As you can see, this turbo, the TT is massive and can carry some air.
Much better than the other which simply looks like a modded T34 IMO

Because its brand new an its mine

I think Dan is right about the UT version being a modified T34 - I got told the internals were machined to take a biger / different compressor wheel.

I've got a HG/BKT38 and it pulls like a train to the limiter. Available from SCS, but as previously said, you may need headwork/cams to take full advantage of this turbo.

You'll obviously require a remap on any of the T38's.

I have a T38 from Vince who used to work at Universal Turbos - it is basically a modded T34 HOWEVER, that's not a bad thing IHMO as it still pulls absolutely fine, FAR better than my old T34.63 / Greys set up.

When Karl mapped it he did comment that he thought it was a little laggy / slow to spin up, but he said it kept pulling and pulling, and thought it would run close to 450bhp when I get it on the rolling road.

I'm very pleased with it so far, and for the price I paid I'm more than happy to recommend it.

a Turbo Technics T38 only comes from Turbo Technics funily enough.

and they only do 1 version.

The other companies do there variations of T38 which are machined out T34/35's

So they have different characteristics.

Steve how come your selling Andy's one after pipping me too it a few months ago?

No money

IVF did not work, which left a big hole in the bank and now all the overtime has gone as well

Not been very good for us over the last few months, also the cossie has died again.

NO NO NO NO NO!

What do you think the TT you keep typing stands for?

Mine is a T38 not a Turbo Technics T38

Mine is a Universal Turbo's T38, which is a machined T34, like all the other companies use, other than Turbo Technics.

The TT T38 is the turbo technics T38 (hence the TT ('T'urbo 'T'echnics))

they only do there own version/variant of the T38 and theres is the larger one.

universal turbo's T38 is the smaller one that looks like a T34 with machined internals.

both turbos are good if suited for the correct application.

the worrying thing is that your not sure what turbo you want or need and are getting confused already about the different specs and variants of the T38's, and you could be speccing the wrong turbo for your engine.

Personally i think you need to get some advice from your engine builder/tuner and see what he recomends.

but thats just my opinion!
