I've had this problem for a while, but now its pissing me off.
Setup is Windows 2000 SP4 and IE 6.028
What is happening is that when I try and visit a website, the IE window closes on its own. Its not a random thing neither.
Happens on the autotrader website, Passionford (if I try and view a thread without being logged in), migweb if I try and make a post, youtube if someone hosts a video and a few others.
its starting to piss me off, as I cannot view a lot of websites because of this
Upgrading to IE7 is not an option, it looks wank isn't very customiseable
Has anyone any ideas what the problem could be? before I throw the pc out of the window

i'd say you have a file currupt, and it did used to happen on a pc i had.
i rebuilt it, and it was fine.
thought i suggest before a rebuild,
1 firefox
2 install 7 then uninstall
3 rebuild

Try running a spyware scan Paul with adaware SE. Sounds like it could be an issue. Otherwise get your Windows CD out and go to the add/remove programs. Click on the windows tab and deselect IE. I haven't looked at this for a long time so it might not veen be there, but I'm sure you can do it.
When you've done this, reboot and go through the same route to put it back on.

try this :
1> START > CONTROL PANEL - Ensure that you are in Classic Mode
2> Double click on INTERNET OPTIONS
3> Select the ADVANCED tab
4> Under BROWSING, remove the check from ENABLE THIRD PARTY BROWSER EXTENSIONS
5> Click on APPLY, then OK
