Default Modern Car brakes

why are they so sensitive? Is it just that they are over servo'd?

I know they dont actually have more braking power - 240mm discs for example on a civic which when u touch the brakes u go through the windscreen..

the alfa 147 we had on holiday was SOOO sensative. Be interested how to improve the feel of the pedal. Everything works well I'd just rather not have to press so much.

the difference is when u press very hard - there isnt much difference in pressure. Ours are more progressive, but when u press v hard on both setups - the braking is the same.

Yep. Overservo'ing is common nowadays because cars have to be easy to drive for ALL.

Definitely agree - biggest problem is with modern cars all the pedal 'feel' is dissapearing. We had a Boreham built Gp4 Escort rally car in the old days, and had no servo at all, and the brakes had soooo much feel.. granted you had to stand on the pedal to make it stop quickly, but you knew it would stop if you did, and you knew exactly when the wheels were about to lock.
These days, you press the pedal gently, the wheels lock no problem, but it doesn't stop the car when the wheels are sliding. The crap feel is then offset with ABS to try and stop the wheels locking all the time.. the brake pedal just becomes a 'slowing down switch' ............ until the ABS fails one day

Yeah I did that today, jumped in the old mans new Accord and stamped on the pedal when a cat ran across the road and stopped there and then with my face against the windscreen...

Our Toyota Hiace van at work really exaggerates this when empty - no load sensor, 3.5 tonne van....
Every time I drive it after not being in it for a while it's "oops, sorry!!!" to passengers!
