Default Legal "workplace" question?

quick legal question here, if I (in theory)let my bosses know I was applying for a job in another fire brigade as courtesy, but I didn't get it in, then they said I couldn't have any further courses or training development for 2 years as i'd looked alsewhere , is that illegal?
cheers,
Andy

When i worked for a very big company they said the same thing , if anyone was found to be looking for work anywhere else they wouldnt give them any training etc and we checked and it is legal for them to do this ,, if you think about it , its quite right ,,why should they invest in you if your going to leave ,,

I think its legal...

there is no requirement to train anyone at all EXCEPT for the very basic H&S stuff.

Again, it is true sadly. Also similar is my friend, who works for a large firm and is intending to leave to start his own business (doing the same thing but self employed) but since recieving specialist training from his firm, he cannot leave withing x ammount of years or has to pay a % back of the cost of the training....

people need to be trained up... thats a COST!

Hence they dont like having to keep training new people.
