Default MoT/Harness advice

This i suppose is mainly for the people running buckets and harness in their motors and or mot pepps.

Right i have to have my car mot'd before i get it vic checked....(catd write off)

I have a bucket in the drivers side and a 3 point harness. I have the rear bolted to the rear seat belt point, the right hand side bolted to the original seat belt hole but the left hand side has no where to bolt to.

I have bought a backing plate from rally design and was woundering is there any special way or requirments for welding them in to the car to be ok to pass an mot/vic check....

All advice is appreciated.....

Just make it safe and secure with not to much of an acute angle for the lap belt.

If your buildng a car for competition the angles required are strictly laid down in the regulations / blue book.

also, you must make sure that the seatbelt anchorages are able to be removed by using just 1 spanner/socket - IE, captive nuts, or welded studs. If you do not do this, it will fail the VIC test

All is good then Tony - Reason I mentioned it, is that I have seen a lot of harness installs in modified roadcars and kitcars (beore SVA tests) that will fail on this point. May aswell get it right first time

Prob silly to point out but if you have not removed the full seat belt working from that side of the car it will also fail. If its there it must work

If the old one is still there then it MUST work.

Remove it then it can't fail

Thanks for all the info, yup all other seats and belts are removed, along with pretty much everything else. The car is an E30 mtech 325i that has been built for drifting.

Just securing down the final parts before mot/vic check....

Thanks again....

if the car is a cat D it doesn't need a vic test, only cat C needs a vic test and all the vic test is for is to check cars I.D. unless they have changed the rules in the last 6 months!!!!!

as far as i was aware a cat D doesn't even show up on the log book were as a cat C will have a note on the log book to say it was a cat C
