Default Aeroquip Fuel Lines......The Smell!!!

Can people tell me from experience please.....

I'm setting up a lift pump, swirl pot, 044 pump, filter type arrangement in the corner of my boot.

After looking at the cost of normal 200 series hose versus the 600 PTFE lined series hose - is the smell really that bad - considering the connections between each component (i.e. swirl pot - pump etc) is going to be no longer than 30-40cm will I get away with using normal hose without passing the whiff of fuel onto the contents of my boot. The longest runs to the engine bay are all still under the car too.

Only reason I ask is that its going to halve the cost of my aeroquip fetish if I use standard 200 series hose - which means more money to spend elsewhere!!!

Yes it is - the vapours are able to escape from normal 200 series hose but not through the PTFE lined 600 series hose!!!

if the vapours can escape, they are flamable

go for the expensive stuff and save yourself from blowing up

Buy the expensive stuff, otherwise the fumes will give you paranoia constantly as you will think you have a fuel leak....

Yeah I know mate - deep down I knew this anyway! LOL! Just had to ask the question for it to hit home properly!!

Brom...yeah I know thats the wrong one mate - its a spare one I had that I was trying on for size reasons thats all!!!

Second question.....how do you go about attaching PTFE hose to normal push on plastic fittings - i.e. whats on my tank??? Would it be best to take the normal quip so it can be jubilee clipped and use as short a length as needed then have a proper aeroquip join & continue into the car with a PTFE line?

no you carnt do that
you need to take tank out and get it welded up with a fitting
the hose dont seal like that been tryed before and it weeps
just weld a -10 on job done

It not that it leaks Lloyd, fuel vapours will permeate through the rubber eventually.

Personally, I would try and get rid of ALL the jubilee clip joints in the system as it's only as good as the weakest link. As far as I can see you only need a couple of longer bits of -6 hose to do the runs up to the engine bay, and another couple of fittings for the tank end.

I know it's not cheap, but another Ł200 quid - job done!!!

Still saving to finish mine off!!

Rich....I do have addiction issues you aint wrong there - whats the cure???!!!

KJC300....the ends on the tank end are plastic & push on so I cant get fittings for there unfortunately unless I get that whole top tank feed/return plate made up in ally!! I agree about the fuel lines under the car but for the time being it'll do until I get it properly setup & mapped etc!!!
