off topic a bit but can anyone tell me why people do huge power 3drs,2wd drive saff and escys but there is a big lack of huge power 4x4 saffs? is there something im missing?surely the 4x4 system is the same as esc so if they can take it why cant saff?sorry if naive people

if you have got a car producing oodles of power, the normal mt75 will not only take it's ball, it'll take the pitch home as well

several reasons mate
the mt75 box is much better than the type 9 it replaced in every way bar the choice of ratios
it's a bit tricky to figure out when you've hit 60 in second because it's not really possible unless you are doing the wrong side of about 6500rpm
the boxes tend to break after about the 350bhp mark or if you give it large from a standing start a few times
and the escos is a smaller car so it's more nimble than the saph
to be honest, i think the 4be saph has had it's day, it's stuck in that no mans land where everyone wants a 3 door because they are nicer to look at and everyone wants to trade up to an escos because thats the next step on the perfomance ford ladder
i still rate my saph as the best car i've driven and had i not stacked it i would still have been driving it today, but with the diminishing popularity of them (i've seen themgoing for less than Ł2k recently) you have to ask yourself if it's worth putting that much money into a car thats not going to be worth squat when you come to sell it

oh and i thought i might add that an escort cossie is actually HEAVIER than the 4x4 saff.......so how can it be more nimble?????
personally i look at the 4x4's as a bargain.same as a ecort cos apart from appearance ie running gear etc etc,but costs a 10th of the price of the escort
to answer the actual question of this thread..........i thinks down to money mate. If you've got a shed load of money to build a rapid 4x4 cossie (which would cost thousands)why buy the ugly saff ,when you could have the gorgeous ecort cos(if moneys no object.)
Thing that gets me on this subject is the fact that surly the saff has better aerodynamic abilities than the escort as its not as tall,or as big and bulky

i think its down to weight, and loss of power through the 4x4 system to be honest mate......
with 4x4 theres more stuff to go wrong i suppose
to be honest,if i was looking to get cossie,id be looking at 4x4 to be honest. They handle alot better(obviously),and are safer on our roads.........they are alot more forgiving than rwds and i love the thought of launching hard off the mark only if everythings uprated though otherwise id brake and costŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ to fix
dont know if this makes you feel any better

Simon,
Where's my invite ?
Also, Rod, shame on you for being jealous that Martin is getting some of "your" limelight . Obviously your time will come (again) when you do your new top speed, whereas Martin's car has been eagerly anticipated for the last two years .
For my part, I think the build up of Martin's car has been one of the best ideas to cover and is eagerly turned to by thousands of FF readers, and I would love for mine to be done in the same way (so watch this space ).

fair play i dont think we should sid with the mags......AFTERALL THEY ARE BOTH FORD MAGS. yeah ff is a bit more about bodykitted fords which i personally arent keen on,and performance is more on errr performance, but not everyone is the same, and i respect this.
Having the hump because of not getting the same attention form THE OTHER MAG is a bit childish.
although im saying this, the mags are in competition,so rod how can you expect the other to greet you with open arms if you ARE SUCH GOOD BUDDYS with pf?????
If youve got to shame ff,then go for it,if it makes you feel that bit better

Have to say Rod, I think you have over stepped it there with that comment !
I respect what you and Mark have acheived before anyone says this
is a MAD diss - It is NOT !
The fact is, Martins car is/will be more famous as it has a higher
public profile in the real world.
However, would be good if your car is there too. Why not give FF a call !

Oh, for goodness sake.
Here are some facts for you to take as they come, or twist into whatever screwed-up meaning you like:
The display is meant to showcase quick Fords from all motorsport disciplines as well as Fast Road/track day cars. There's no point listing who will be there, because you will only slag off the entries, thus making the owners involved wonder why they bother.
Rod Tarry was invited to take part, but as you know from his previous posts, the engine won't be ready in time. The car will now be debuted at National Day.
Martin Hadland's Escort won't even be in the Fastest Fords display - he quite rightly wants it on the Reyland trade stand where he can keep an eye on it.
There are a fair few other cars that should be there but can't because they are still in bits or the owners are on holiday. That's life.
Ford Fair is organised and run by a dedicated events team NOT the magazine, as are all the shows put together by our publishers. There is no bias involved.
And finally, for thosed of you who are looking forward to seeing the cars on the day, the majority will be taking part in two dedicated track sessions, and two 0-60 sprint run-offs. This may be your only chance to see these cars run together.
End of. I've got some work to do.
Simon

Well put Simon,
After reading this thread I was having second thoughts about taking one of my cars along, you just cant win with some people.
I do so much with my car circuit racing, track days, sprints, time attack and next weekend ten of the best and all I get is critisied about it being in the magazine all the time. Perhaps I should just keep in bits in the garage and just talk about what I am going to do with it and how fast its going to be.
I hope that everbody taking part has a good day and a big thank you to Simon at Fast Ford for the invite.

I sometimes wonder wether yours are Cosworths as you always seem to make events and not break down a week before as seem to be the norm
You do a cracking job Steve, and build cars how they are supposed to be
