back to the subject of turbos....
as far as the garrett vs cheapo version arguement goes, as its been said 99% of "new turbos" are just rebuilt items, so its fair to say the "new garrett turbo" is only as good as the person who rebuilt it.
the reason i say that is because i know of a couple of people whove had turbos rebuilt by professionals to what would be a "brand new" turbo, and have had major terminal failures due to the workmanship which has left them with fucked turbos and engines that have munched 1/2 of said fucked turbos compressor wheel...not good! and this is a "new - garrett - turbo" we're talking about....so really it doesnt matter who made the components if the person who assembled it didnt do it right!
if it were me running a stg3 or similar cossie, or a zetec turbo or whatnot, id definatly go for one of these turbos. even if it onlys lasts 1/2 as long as a "brand new garrett" would, at a 1/4 of the price, if you have to replace it twice as often youre still getting good VFM. fuck it i say, i youre one of these people who are stupid enough to pay £80 quid for a pair of jeans because theyre levis, go ahead and pay over the odds for a turbo thatll do the same job as one a 1/4 of the price! id rather have a 'lesser' turbo and be looked at as a pikey but go and spend my 400 quid ive saved on fuel and trackdays!

Stu, fair points indeed.
Plus is like MikeR says you get the compressor wheel break up, IME it actually does no damage anyway, ive seen that twice now and both times the engine was fine, little tiny bits of ally arent going to damage a valve seat at the end of the day, plus the intercooler stops most of it anyway, im NOT saying its a good thing, but just that its unliklely to end in terminal failure from what ive seen.

if you can prove anything avt has said is fraudulant or is activly trying to dishonestly sell his services or even trade on passionford then please feel free to bring it to any of the moderating team or even the admin ..
just because someone supposedly talks the talk but cant walk the walk is not an excuse to lay into em ... in fact the majority of your posts questioning him are still there .. so why get all mardy about it?

dont know whether i should post on this topic, but oh well here goes, for those of you who dont know im the chairman of the renault 21 turbo owners club. I was going to have one of the adaptatronics ecu's for my car. It wasnt directly through dave but through another party on the 21 toc site. Like many others I was desperate for an answer to get more power out of my car, when told about the ecu i jumped at the chance.
Over the next month I began to realise that the support for this unit was very lacking, and as i understood it, not one turbo charged car in the uk was running it. I think the idea behind the ecu is good in theory but as im no expert I leave it up to the rest of you. My wife then decided to do the "its the car or me" routine, so I had to pull out. Now im going to go a different route now, thanks to some help from a few people on here.
But one thing I will say is you get what you pay for in life, cheaper turbo's are not always the best, but if no-one has tried one of these ebay turbo's we cant judge them till they do. Oh and dave im not trying to start anything, but if you can get t34 turbo's for £400, im sure theres a few lads from 21toc who might be interested.
