Nobody forces you to spend big money on your cosworth, you do it because you want to, after all it is only a toy to play with.

No two big money cars are identical so you have a unique car, built as you want it.

Don't kid yourself that the passion for cosworths dies as you get older. I will never see 50 again and the money I am spending building and restoring my ultimate fast road saph would buy 5 standard cars.

I could drive around in comfort in a M5 but would rather have a road rocket with soul. In fact I will insist on being be buried in mine.

its too easy to get in too deep with cossies...
i often look at my car think what else could sittin gthere for the same money, which is quite alot of very nice cars.

i know i didnt plan on spending what i have on my car but the way i see it, it will always be worth something since it has that name we all know and love attached to the back of it.

could have pissed it all up against a wall but im glad i have something to show for my money and not just a beer belly and a drug habbit

Default why

Its kinda hard to explain but i guess i have always been an enthusiast with cars, fords were the cars on the telly when i was a kid and that had a massive impact on me, since then myself and the blue oval have had a love-hate relationship apart from a couple of v8 rovers fords have been all i have owned finishing up with the cossie i own now, i have blown a large amount of money on cars and all in my saff owes me 25k but its all about the taking part, its not about the money, its for the buzz of it

I've spent more money on cars in the last 4 years than i care to remember... The difference for me is that it's been more valuable than my education up to that point.

At 17 I barely knew my way round an engine bay, at 21 i'm working for a Formula 1 team...

The escort i'm building has probably cost me £10,000 in parts, however, it is *exactly* what i want. No compromises.

I know i'll never get £10,000 selling it, but i don't want to sell it. I've but too much into it, emotionally and physically and more to the point, it's my testing ground for ideas.

P.S - Good to see you back on here Martin!

It's a good question........ and the answer is do it if you want to and can afford it.

Every other reason will tell yuo to get something better designed at doing the job. 500bhp saff will be a shit drift car.

I'm going to build up my car again because of several reasons...

1. I love it
2. As the saying goes you always want what you can't have I.E the 3dr was never sold here.
3. I'll get what I can, when I can I want to have a great handling/looking road & track car. It will be a weekend car only that's why I have another car as a daily driver.
4. It's also going to be on specialised insurance so it will have a high value on it incase anything ever happens to it.
5. Stopy your whining!!! you think you have it bad? try buying cossie parts with American money!!
6. It a dream come true to own this car I acutallly never thought I would but now I do.
7. Did I already mention the exchange rate for the dollar to pound?

i know what you mean, i wouldnt ever consider a saff for drifting as they just arent good enough.the lock is crap for a start and in general its not the right car.i love my saff for various reasons and wouldnt sell it but now im not sure which route to take.its stg 3 at mo which obviously isnt a slow car but i want a bit more.but like i say im not sure if i want to go that heavy on it. thats why this post has got me thinking maybe leave the interior in and only go for a mild upgrade to say 420ish and they go get a cheap shit drift car that i can have fun in and not worry about.
tracey said she doesnt mind too much what i do because its my money but still when we live together i think she deserves a say too.

What can i say bout it ?

On my old Saph I spunked just under 35k on her ! And she still looked like a sack o shyte minicab !

But i did do 4 engine's before the Harvey one (thanks Mike), something like 5 or 6 gearboxes, 4 props & approx 35 diff's (25 in a year). Then you got different rims, TYRES & routine maintenance etc.

But lookin back now yeah i could of got any car i wanted for that sorta doh, but I loved my Saph & enjoyed every minute drivin it !

Also gotta remember that 35k spend out was over 4-5 years, so made it a "little" easyer to live with ! Not that the ex would agree

After all that time & money spent on the car i blew another diff & at the same time the engine loom decided it was enough & caught fire !

That was the end 818 LYA & i got a R1, then a GSXR-1000K4 & loved em ! You can not beat the feelin on a bike flat out !

Now after my little girls turned one i've bought another Saph Cossie, but this time i found one with the right bits already ! 500hp engine, Straightcut dogbox, Gripper diff, dry sump, group A seam welded shell etc for much cheapness - so i is a very happy bunny at the mo ! Just gotta register it on the road hopefully with out a Q plate !

My 2 pence worth

TBH i would rather fork out 15k for an escos, and pump another 10k into it, then say buy a 150,000k so called supercar, how gutting must it be for said ferrari driver to watch this (SHONKY) old escort fook off into the distance... plus anybody know how much services cost on ferrari's and shit like that ?

As C1ark says, it's a hobby!
Everyone on here has a passion for cars, and mainly a passion for thier own car, so with that passion comes bills for getting them the way YOU want them!
I've never spent so much money on any car before I bought my Rallye (cheers C1ark )but in saying that, even though I'm up to XXk I know that I plan to spend more on it as it's not quite where I want it yet! Yes I could have bought a E46 M3, but it would just be the same as the guys sitting next to me in the traffic

When folk ask you how much you've spent and they cringe then it's clear they've never shared the same passion for a car!

So long as it puts a smile on YOUR face... Go for it

Probably not that much at all.

From personal experience, people I know who own supercars like this are far more realistic than your average performance car driver. They are well aware that there are plenty of things out there quicker than them, and more often than not, they will be very appreciative of a faster car at a tenth of the money.

You don't REALLY think someone buys something like a Ferrari F430 because he wants to be the fastest person on the motorway do you?

I distinctly remember you taking the piss out of Stian when we met him at ND that time when he told you he spent £100k on his car (inc labour) and you turned round and said you could build the same thing for £60k and he was stupid to spend that amount of money . I think you need one of these as well . Add your labour costs then and you will be up to the same amount as he spent . Now who is the silly boy ?

Some yes. I remember one time when a rich boy driving his Audi S6 saw me going far away from him in a crest. At the end of the way I just stopped my car and he did the same. We then had a nice discussion and he was really impressed by the car, he didn't knew what was that car (I hadn't any logo on my saph cos 4x4).

You know those guys who have supercar some really CARE about the others, they are not just driving the cars to show themself.

I live in Switzerland you know, there you can see 40% of the world production of Audi S models (S3, S4, S6, S8, RS4, RS6), in other words you see great cars each 50meter. Ferraris and Porsches everywhere but a lot of driver care about the speed of the others.

Who in there right mind would be worried if they were sitting in their plush italian leather seats, holding their plush italian leather steering wheel listening to one of the best engine notes in the world would be bothered that someone in a bumpy, noisy old ford beat them?

Advan RS's

It's an EVO 8 with a 9 front and rear bumper with a lowering kit. I thought it was a 9 originaly.

With the evo prices as they are and paying top whack for parts I reckon you'd still have some change from £25K

I normal looking evo myself with normal ride height. Only reason to buy an evo is because of how well it drives so why wreck it with lowering springs.

Advan RS's

It's an EVO 8 with a 9 front and rear bumper with a lowering kit. I thought it was a 9 originaly.

With the evo prices as they are and paying top whack for parts I reckon you'd still have some change from £25K
Wicked Paul! This what your thinking about now then mate?
