Default PCMCIA comm port adaptor

Not one that goes to USB then USB to comm port, one that goes directly to being a comm port.

Trying to get my RP Labs ECU working on my laptop and its having none of it at the moment, i know its not the ECU as it worked fine on Nicks, and ive stripped my cars loom back and checked thats all fine, so only thing i can think of is that its the comm port on my PC, as RP Labs have said that it will only work on a physical port or a PCMCIA one.
Mine appears to be a physical one (ie i have a comm port in the back of my laptop) but i wonder if internally its running off an adaptor on the USB hub and thats why it wont work?

Anyone recomend me where to get a decent PCMCIA one, as i know of a couple of people who have had problems with some of them on the market.

The com port on the back of your laptop will be part of the motherboard. As will the USB ports that you have on the laptop.

Chip, I have a brainbox one that works perfectly. mine was a little more expensive, as it is the ruggedised version as i have experienced problems with the small connectors shown on the one that Simon provided the ebay link to.

just had another thought as to why you might be experiencing problems chip. will pm you

Nick, me and Nikola have now ruled out any sort of comm port issue, we've done a basic loopback test on the monitor screen (i shorted pins 2 and 3 of the comm port) and it came up with values.

Chip,

can you check wich IRQ and base-adresses your software wants,
you can set this in your BIOS.

If you are using the com port and software under windows you might have to set speed values etc...

Joris, its ok thanks now mate, my comm port actually IS working with the software ok, as the loop back test has proved.

Hopefully its this thing that Nick has PM'd me about instead, which is a minor change to the ECU wiring loom that is required that he hadnt mentioned before.

Going to be frustrating if it is after 2 days of messing about, lol, but on the other hand i will be relieved its finally working so wont care

You can be pretty sure it will be a one minute fix on the ECU end, lol.

Always like that
