As some of you may know I work for a DAF dealership.

Been there quite a few years now as a workshop controller / receptionist

I've just been promoted to,,,, "Workshop Supervisor "

I'm $hitting myself

Got the week off this week, however go back next monday into my new roll!

Very daunting though, knowing that if any of the lads are now in trouble etc I've got to hand out the telling's off & hand out the disciplines Never had to do anything like this before, so tad worried!

Also 95% of all of the lads are like 10-20 years older then me, so wondering how they will react to lil me giving out the slap on the wrists!!

Have spoken to a few of them and they respect me for how far I've come in a so called "mans world" so thats nice to know they will support / respect me for it

I've been wanting to move up in my company for ages now, just hope I can do this, new challenge for me I suppose lol

Has anyone else ever had to deal with a big step up like this??
Any tips or any info that you can chuck my way, would be most appreciated

We have a new deputy manager at work, he was having problems with certain members of staff ignoring his instructions as he is a bit of a soft touch. If people step out of line now he hits them in the pocket, their hours get cut until they prove themselves. Course this is work paid by the hour, I expect your lot are on salary. People can always be sent home unpaid tho!

I would get myself a book on adult discipline or something

Digi thanks babe. I do their wages anyway lol! They are paid hourly! I'd never hit someones pocket though, unless they had caused damage to something which we had to pay for which I've had to deduct in the past.

Along the lines of what I was thinking or possibly a course at college on Management. Getting off on the right foot is so important. One of our depots here went so far down hill as the manager was to friendly with his staff so he was given the flick and the staff didnt know what hit them with the new guy. Sounds like they already respect you a fair bit though so you should be good.

Alot of them said they do due to the amount of $hit I've had to put up with over the years!! Speak to any woman in a "truck industry" and I'm sure they get the same!!

The last guy who worked in our parts department thought I should be at home in the kitchen baking fooking cakes rather then advising customers when their hgv was due a service and what service it required.
I think that made me want to do the job even more though, makes you stronger

Theres still alot to learn, but if you'd asked me 4 years ago now what a 5th wheel was on a lorry I prob would of come out with a dumb blonde answer like the spare wheel or something You pick things up as you go along & you always learn by your mistakes
