Default How much are new Ford Keys?

Seem to have lost my sodding Keys for my car and Cannot for the life of me find it or the spare.

How much is it from Ford for a new Red key and black keys alike, As I presume you can't just get a new ignition barrel, door locks etc. with keys and they'll work?

R reg escort btw.

Cheers in advance.

What keys do you have?

If you have the red key type immobilser system your looking at about £100 for a new set. + programming to your car.

I've found a website who do it, but how the hell do they actually do it? I take it they'll have to come round to the car to read the lock or whatever they do.. argh.. going to go on a hunt.

I have a feeling ford keep a record of the original key cut for the car. (after all they just follow a code to cut the keys).

It might be worth popping down to ford and explaining your situation.

either way, new keys will have to be programmed to the immobiliser which I think on your car can only be done with the RED master key.

it totally depends on which dealer you go to,there are 2 ford dealers around here,my mate needed keys, one garage said 200 quid, the other said 40! when we got there i asked if there was a set price for that sort of thing,he said no,the dealer just makes up a price! so shop around your local ford dealers mate, to make a key takes about 5 mins, remove the door barrel (very easy and self explanatory, took me a minute or two) then take it to the dealer,he can then strip it and make a new key, then arrange to take the car to the dealer for recoding

do what i did

the locks failed (Ignition) on my girlies fiesta si. has the red immobiliser keys.

got a whole new set (not programmed) about 45 quid from ford.

cut the chips out of the new keys, and binned em. removed what locks i could, still need to get round to doors. and secured the immobiliser key under the steering cowling, so when it looked for the immobiliser code it saw that, with the new key and igntion barrel.

sorted

does negate the secuirty issue, but if you car has a seperate alarm then no worries. dont bother building locks around old keys as they just break again after 3 months.

new keys, new locks, get round the immobiliser, job done.
