Default escort cosworth small TURBO HELP needed!?!?!

just replaced the turbo on my small turbo escort as was leaking oil out seals. everything was fine, boost wise etc b4 taking turbo off (was just the smoke from under bonnet off oil leaking)

now with new turbo on it has no boost, very slowly builds up boost and cant work out why!? checked all pipes and all seems fine.

have checked the small actuator thing it has on side of turbo as been told it has a diafram inside it, it only has a small metal spring, is this right??? this actuator thing had been tampered with as was all loose wheen got it!

other than that the normal actuator was fine so cant c how that wud break as was fine on way to garage to fit the turbo.

any advice appreciated??

should have a rubber diaphram inside it, between the two halves of the actuator. If this is missing it meants that it cannot hold the wastegate shut, and it will make no boost. Have you got a spare you can stick on?

That is teh dump valve and some idiot has ruined it

Dont run it like that as the turbo will overspeed and kill itself. Take all teh parts out of your old turbo and fix.

well i bought it off a company with a warenty, dont wana name names for 150 quid! shud it be sent back?? that dump valve stu was siloconed back on! he hasnt had a llok in his old one as hasnt got the toque bits at hand at moment, the one he got 'new' just screwed straight off and thats why he looked inside it. it hasnt got a rubber diaphram, its metal??!!

yeah milkman, it not been out as i never ordered his turbo as i like taking my saoh out n 2 shows but i cudnt put him off any longer! LOL

I would call teh company who are warrantying it then. Its up to them if you are allowed to dismantle it or not.

The T28 should NOT be run without this valve active unless it is no longer running a MAF.

whtas a MAF??

i have rang them and told them above and he said to check inside it as ment to have a diaphram in it, i told him it had a metal spring in it n thats all n he said he cant remember if ment to have owt else in their! n to check our old one! will get john to check it 2nite n if theres more than a spring in his to wait n ring company 1st b4 changing things! but it def ment to have a rubber thing over spring?? wud this effect the boost??

am sending sum business ya way stu, my mates mk2 with cossie conversion, this fri! av told him to nick off into blackpool n let ya get on! LOL

I assure you it has a diaghram and a 2 piece seat assembly in there as well as the spring... in fact, here is a repair kit for one off the Rover (Same cover) .

He took his old one apart and yes, this was in it, he has fitted this to the 'new' one and waiting for it to seal so will try it 2nite! fingers crossed!
