Big wing sump - Thanks to garage 19 (with pics)
Just got these pictures from Doug of my sump that he has just stuck in the post back to me after big-winging it.
Looks fantastic in the pics
Thanks very much Doug

starter motor side if way to low
if you only got holes in the sump you likley to get oil surge on right hand bends due to larger oil volume
you need a gated sump
sorry if it is one
like marcos sump work of art but cost around Ł400

The boxes are not open to the rest of the sump they have slots at the bottom so that the original sump side walls act as baffles.
This as well as the fact that even the largest box is under the existing oil level along with the increased oil capacity should prevent surge.

chip i will explane to u on msn
not a dig at welding them up look ok to me just the idea of a larger tank and i smaller tank when runin no baffles gates in is not the best optoin
yes you hold more oil which is good
i done alot of research on this when i built my car i dont have the room for a large gated sump so when dry sump best optoin of all

this is my 4x4 sump, you cannot see the gates in the sump, its where the oil pick up pipe is.
these gates keep the oil from starving the pick up pipe.

You run an external reservoir for the oil, and a pump that sucks the sump dry (combined with a much smaller sump) the oil pump is then fed direct from that external reservoir which means no pickup to run dry during cornering, also means you can run a couple of gallons of oil at the same time as a more streamlined sump (better clearance)
Tends to lower crankcase pressure too which can yield power gains.

this also lowers the centre of gravit of the car as you can get the tranmission lower too, and if you take it to extreames, porche also now do a smaller clutch so you don't even have to worry about how far off the ground the engine/earbox has to be due to the hieght of the flywheel
clever buggers them forigners ain't they

1 your run 3 or 4 pumps oven more in some cases
there is no crank case presure it runs a vacum even at high revs
i run 5 pumps
2 scavenging the sump pan (collector)
one suking out the turbo
one out the cam cover
and a big inlet pump with a 2 stage spring and set up you can alter tick over presure and max preasure

Brom, i know there is no crank case pressure on the dry sump, thats my point, you release power from the engineby removing this pressure.
Was also aware on the multiple pumps as well, if you read again you will see i mention one pump to empty the sump and an oil pump still too.
Ive worked on dry sump engines before, so i know more details than i gave, lol
