went south end saterday with a few mates all with 330 bhp cossies 3 in totel when on the way to basildon we met an evo at a set of lights the driver started telling me that his evo is an fq 340 m r light weight and cossie owners shouldnt underestimate his evo(w*"^$r) so when we all got to an open stretch of road we obliterated him at 120+mph when we got to basildon we see him drive past he looked quite pissd off

At best, cossie is a reasonable car from the 80s with a legendary engine.

Evo is just a totally awesome alround package, the engine is only a small part of whats great about it.

 

Dont get me wrong I love the escort cossie, not really fussy on the others but they are good cars for what they are. That EVO Fq 340 has a lot going for it spec wise.

if the guy owns an evo that doesnt mean he have to disrespect other cars...good for the guy he was outrun by some cossies...he clearly underestimate a cossie...

The EVO is the better all round car, yes its largely due to amount of time spent and better technology etc, but that doesnt change the fact that it is better, so if cossie owners want to start comparing then they are likely to be dissapointed.

 

evos are good cars, I like cossies more ffs thats why im on here, see evos everywhere on the road hardly see a cossie they have more character imo. cossie is a great car for its time and I love em.

I dont think that "being realistic" and "being anti-ford" are the same.

The board isnt entirely full of people with ford blinkers on, but i think 99% or more of us on here do have some sort of affection for fords or cossies etc, i certianly do, but that doesnt mean i cant see the truth anymore when another car is better.

Shame Ford don't see the error of their ways and create a new 'cossie' of some sort. Whether it be using a cosworth engine or using a different one.
Whatever Ford created back then can still be used today with great effect. If you put 20 years worth of technology back into an Escort Cosworth I dare say it would leave an Evo standing.

I once saw something outside my work which made me smile, evo came out of a car wash and then gave it shit after an escort cosworth that came past seconds before, cosworth lurched forward and literally left the evo for shit. I'm not saying they are shit cars but for character, appearance and overall road presence. Myself, and 99% of other ford enthusiasts would pick the cosworth over an Evo everyday. It still looks as modern and a lot fucking meaner than anything on the road today.

I'm not blinkered to the fact that Evo's are far better cars than Cosworths.

The point i'm making is that this IS a Ford sight, yet whenever a Ford is mentioned in some sort of positive light the Pro Evo, Skyline, Supra, Impreza etc members decide to stir it up with put downs and 'if it had been round a bend...' quotes.

It boring, the lad and his mates beat an Evo fair and square. So what if it was in a straight line.

True. I suppose at the end of the day you get blinded by the fact that you love Ford etc. etc. and don't see the other end of the spectrum. For me an Escort Cosworth is the ultimate car, whether it is becuase I have never had one is to be seen but I'd be hard pushed to choose a car in the same price range over the cosworth.

I could have bought myself an evo 6 for what ive spent on my crappy old ford, i didnt cause i have a passion for 3 doors, so i spent the money on an old sierra instead, BUT although i PREFER IT to an evo, it doesnt mean i think its got ANY performance advantage over one, cause it blatantly doesnt, i would be 30 seconds a lap quick in an FQ340 round the ring than in my similarly powered cossie i should think.

But i wouldnt smile and feel 16 again the way i do everytime i roll the 3 door out and fire her up

Probably the truth is, that the Evo beat the cossies away from the lights and when they caught up on an open stretch of road, they had to get to speeds of over 120+ to get past it...... and the Evo driver hadn't even changed up to 6th yet
