I was up at the derby toyota plant a couple of weeks ago.
In the entire time its been open (during which its made several million cars) NOTHING has gone to landfill yet.
EVERYTHING is recylced or re-used, seriously cool way to make cars, but modern ford plants are all either like that or heading that way too, using JIT etc, cause its just fundamentally better, and ford realise that.
Ford invented mass production cars, but they havent been the only ones to have an input, and in recent years its the japs leading the way without any doubt at all.

BMW, Vauxhall, Ford - whatever the make some people who are a fan of that make will simply be blind and blinkered morons and some will have an open mind about the shortcomings and strengths of their cars/engines/gearboxes. I find combining as many different marques bits in one car is the best way - multicultural integration

There's arrogance towards other brands, and then there's nonchalance..
i.e, the Renault 5 owners club...
When you listen to their threads they don't really give any other performance marques much comment...

I've had two Evo 6's, cracking cars, BUT i do prefer my Esc Cos, mainly due to the look of it, it helps that it goes like stink, (and if the owner of the white Y plate Evo 7 from Saturday is reading this, ) oh the joys... 
Trouble is with the MLR is that everyone tries to out do one another, its like a battle as to who has the most money, pathetic really...

not owned anything jap yet, i do fancy trying a scoob or evo or skyline at some point before i die
the only thing i dont like is how much money you lose on these cars(like most cars), i mean how many 32 year old jap cars are worth over £30k and will hold there value like my mk1 escort
i do like the look of the tommy mak evos and the 22b subarus i will get one one day

If you want something thats good all round, i dont think fords are too bad TBH. Id rate them a bit more solid than jap cars, and a bit more reliable (better electrics) than the german cars.
Im not a die hard ford buff either lol

So BMW's are un-reliable?
Its not hard for the japs to make a reliable engine when the majority of the ones they design are for taxis! why do you think we get so many grey imports from Japan? because when they are up for the first MOT after 3 years they very rarely pass, so instead of forking out the owners just sell em and buy another new one, they might be reliable engines but they are poorly built with cheap parts.
Apart from Honda I dont see any Jap firms inovating with new cars, they all seem to copy the top selling models like the mondeo and focus, 307 and 206 etc, bit shit if you cant come up with your own ideas

So are mercedes.
The good build quality on German cars = the bits you can see.....bodywork and fixings, including how sturdy the interior is. The electronics are shit on german cars, especially VWs. There are some mechanical bits ive seen that arent exactly clever either, though theyre usually mechanically OK.
Just my findings as ive looked over them. Seems to be supported by every breakdown recovery driver ive spoken to and the various polls ive seen too. lol
I know ive been going against the grain in all topics tonight, but its only an opinion (and some researched fact)

We'll have to agree to disagree then mate, but if you'd seen some of the things I've seen on brand new cars just off the assembly line you might have a different opinion
Hows about rear doors not closing because all the windows are up
or an air vent thats had that much sound deadening stuck to it to stop it rattling that it doesnt open or close anymore.
or sunvisors that come away in your hand when you pull them down.
I could go on with LOADS more problems with so called "well built" japanese cars, but I cant be arsed, seeing them all day is enough without talking about them when I'm at home

Just that german cars aint as reliable as people think they are.
Jap cars are mechanically reliable. We all know the trim etc is shit.
