Stupid narrow minded Jap owners
Makes my friggin blood boil.
Just been readings through some Cosworth posts on MLR and there is one where a guy wanted a genuine discussion about the technical merits of the YB and the 4g63 EVO engine. What happens, a bunch of wankers jumps in and starts the usual Cossie's are shite, Evo's rule, floors made of teabags, engines that die when you start them, usual bollocks.
I know Cossies are old, but fuck me, these guys are slamming them by comparing them to an Evo 9 engine. There's a good 8-10 years of development in the Evo since the Cossie ended and they use that as an excuse.
I'm not blind to that fact that YB's have issues, but so do 4g63's.
Just pisses me off that people can't have a decent discussion without some gibbon turning it into a mines better than yours post.
I'm prompted into this because all weekend I've had the Cossie out after having some engine work done and its been spot on, not a leak, parp, fart or breakdown in sight. My mates Evo has been in the dealers for the last three months but it doesn't mean mines better. We both know they have their own issues and accept it. Mine could be in next month and he has his back.
I don't think its fair to compare cars from two different era's. There's too many variables to consider.
In the words of Pete from BB "WANKERS WANKERS WANKERS".
Sorry, all done.

Never mind 10 years ago mate - the Cosworth engine is best part of 25 years old not excluding the block which was used before that.
And still developing over 600 horses and shutting down Jap crap
Wonder how many Jap cars will still be doing that when they're 25 years old ?

Well yeah, thats what I mean. I don't want this to turn into a us vs them post either. I know that both have merits. Me, I'm on the Ford side of the fence, but it doesn't mean I'm blind.
I've raced my mates Evo before and he won. I was fine with that, it was a straightforward drag race and he got it.
I've been out since after some work and the car, he concedes will beat his Evo. We just accept it that we have good cars. Don't see either of us at the roadside bitch slapping each other saying "mine's better", "no mine is". What a load of nonsense.
Grr, need a beer, dunno why this has bothered me so much.

Don't go on the MLR then
Remember most of them don't really have a clue what their talking about! They just take WHATEVER their tuner says as gospel. I went on the board when I was looking to buy one, but I was put off by their attitude...... Boost controllers etc, is all they think you need to have the worlds fastest car

PassionFord Post Whore!!
It dont matter which marque it is, they all think "there" marque is the best.
It happens on here, but not so much latley i must say. I have a honda integra and i love it, but i love my rs's but just realised that as an everyday car the way i drive them they aint that good anymore imo.
Cossies aint to bad but an rst i just couldnt live with tbh.
As for the evo v's cossie argument think of it this way, jap motors are mass imported around the world where as fords aint. If they were better than the jap stuff the japs would be importing them and tuning them like we do to there cars.
Unfortunatly ford dont make a good competitive car anymore imo, i mean a focus st is about the best you can get from a ford dealer and they simply dont compare to the jap stuff. FFS they even use a volvo engine lol
Ford need to get there arse into gear and build a 350bhp 4wd monster

Just read a bit more, some dozy git just had the cheek to say this.
"At the end of the day, its only a Sierra as well. Start with shit, modify it, end up with turbocharged shit".
does he think the Evo started off as. Its a fucking Lancer, Japans No.1 taxi.

Totally agree, was seriously impressed with your Integra when you went after that Cossie down the Parkway to Redcar
I must confess I don't like any new stuff Ford are bringing out at the moment. If I had to pick a new car, for me, unfortunately it would be the Astra VXR (shit it hurt to say that ).

There aint 1 new car i would spend my hard earned cash on. My next car hopefully will be a honda nsx, but i will have to see if the insurance companys agree with me.
My mate has a tommi mak evo6 and its a cracking car but i wouldnt have paid 16k for it like he did. That said i honestly cant believe that anyone pays over 10k for a escos or even 5k for a saph. There worth the money but there only a old escort and sierra at the end of the day, if you know what i mean

There is a FAR larger percentage of Evo owners who actually know naff all about the insides of an engine.
Without understanding the way that a decent engine is designed and built they arent in any position to talk about them really, they view engines as mystical devices that have magical properties and they dont understand what makes a good or a bad one.
Evo's are good cars, in fact evo's are GREAT cars, but sadly a lot of the people buying them dont understand why.
Thats not always the case of course, but its certainly more common for an Evo owner to have never done any mechancial work on a car than a cossie owner IMHO (i mean prior to owning it, not because evo's need less work or anything like that)
Ironicaly if you look back to the early evo engines (which were still designed AFTER the cossie ones) they suffer quite badly from crank walk and other design issues.
The advantage modern evo engines have is that there has been a continual improvement on them for the last 10 years since that, where as the YB was got pretty close to spot on to begin with and then left like it essentially with only minimal changes through the years.

Simply put, ford at the time were happy with a "well its good enough so no point spending more money on it" approach.
Jap manufacturers have a TOTALLY different philosophy, they are ALWAYS looking to improve absolutely every single aspect of their cars.
Nowadays ford etc tend to use jap methodolgies when building and designing cars anyway, simply cause its better than how they used to do it.

As an example, my mate and me were both doing some work on our cars one day, i had a honda prelude and he had an audi A6 estate
One of hte jobs i had involved removing the rear anti rollbar
One of hte jobs he was doing involved removing an ally heat shild from near the exahust
There were (iirc) 2 13mm bolts holding on my anti roll bar, and 6 15mm bolts holding on his heat shield
The honda was correctly engineered, any more bolts would NOT have improved the functioning or life expectancy of the rollbar bushes, any less and it would have been worse, the audi was over engineered, that was more weight than was needed ,a couple of smaller bolts would have done the job just fine.

No probs!
The MLR's problem sometimes stems form the tuners being fannys. ie Norris and Evo400. If you actually read what they post to each other its ridiculous. But you are right more evo owners know less about engines simply because they dont really need to. I know far more about Cosssies than evos and i own one. Dont get me wrong i know more than most but still not as great a knowledge as i have of RS's.
And there are a lot of wanks on MLR too

Fair play mate some folk on the MLR can be wanks but its just folks preferences which they prefer.
I have an evo and my b/f has and escort cosworth and in the space of 3 mths has had to replace a fuse box and a head gasket which has been nothing but expense but as he admitted before he bought the car that he knew he wld need to put money into it as its an older car.
We argue constant about which one is better but its all in a good laugh we just have different opinions.
He will always make his money back on the cossie, I wont on the evo
