Why the fook does it take so long to burn a CD on my work computer?
I think its to do with the RAID aray that i have and its slowing everything down.. the CD burner is a lite-on 48 speed one so not too bad.
It just takes a fucking age to burn anything! for example a *ahem* backup of windows XP takes about 9 mins! now my DVD burner at home which obviously does CD's too will do it in about 4 mins and that only writes CD's at 16X IIRC whats going on! anyway i can sort it? the CD burner is the only CD drive in the computer and isnt sharing it ultra IDE cable with anything

does the buffer memory usage constantly drop to 0%?
if this happens then it will stop burning then cache some stuff, then continue... makes it take AGES...
normally happens on shit slow PCs and those with loadsa shit running in the background, as the CD Burning stuff cant get as much processor power or disk access time as it needs...
i assume it COULD be caused by raid (in theory) but then most raid stuff is fookin fast anyway so doubt it'd be an issue

the used read buffer constantly stays at 100% but the other 'buffer level' goes up and down.. the pc isnt shit really.. 2.4 P4 (propper one not a cellory processor
) with 1gig of ram and isnt running anything else in task manager the processor usage fluctuates wildly.. from like 18% to 100% then 33% then 100% etc

erm its a file server...
... which is probably constantly accessing data from the RAID array to share to others...
...which means your CD Burning stuff is getting Qued with all the other traffic...
so no its prbably not under any load at all when it comes to disk access now is it phil

yea but there are only like 6 computers connected to it..
not all of them are accesing stuff at once... and the stuff they access is small shit like excell files, word files etc.. the biggest thing thats opened is the daybook (simple format done in access97) and the sage line 50 accounts (which arent that big at all! and are hardly ever open)
