Default Anyone on here have a pond??

Strange question I know.

Got serious algea problems at the moment, sunshine and all that.
What do you use to control it?
Also just checked the pH and its 8.9 which is way too high. Are the 2 problems related? I'm guessing so.
Any advice on treatments etc very welcome.

couple things you could do 1: buy more oxygenating plants.2:buy a bottle of pond clear 3:buy a pump(even do solar power ones nowadays)

TETRA-FINN pond clear is pretty good!

ps have you got a Lily plant in the pond as these also help to keep it down!

Got a lily in the other week, taking quite well. Got another plant in too but I can't remember the name, growing like mad which makes me think theres a bit too much fish shit in there.
Has a pump/filter/UV on but isnt doing a very good job on the algea. Water is clear just full of trailing green stuff!

you need to have a good circulation of water i.e a good pump/ fountain and plenty of oxygenating plants, this stops the water from going stagnent.

Your animals in the pond and weather will do the rest.

I assume you're running a filter and pump together. First thing toclear the algae is 'Green Away' made by Tetra Pond but also check the UV light in your filter as that could have gone. If you get pond weed (blanket weed) use 'Algazin P' to clear that and dose the pond every 2 weeks. Mines greening up and I've shoved some Green Away in tonight. Not alot you can do, the algae thrives on sunlight. Just keep dosing the pond to keep it at bay during the summer months. As said, get an oxyfenator and plants, the oxygenator is about Ł25 and get one with at least 2 stones.

2 inches of water - depends on the literage of the pond Kim ! 2 inches in a pond 6feet deep is nothing but 2 inches in a 8 inch deep one is alot.

If it's 2 feet or more deep then 2 inches I wouldn't worry about - some buckets of tap water will be fine. If you want to put some Tap Safe in just to be sure it won't hurt, just mix say 20mm out, put in one of the buckets and mix throughly. Then just pour the bucket evenly over the suface of the pond, don;t just put it all in one place as a fish could get a big hit and could die !
