Default Rivnuts - anyone used them?

Has anyone used Rivnuts for holding something in place?

I need to fix my anti-roll bar to a new location on the BMW, and the logical solution is rivnuts, But I don't want to use them if they are going to be useless and shit themselves at the first sign of a small load on them

The E30 antiroll bar is not like a cossie one, all the loading is on the front wishbones and the arb is there purely as a rollbar, and not a bar to stop the wheels flopping about like on a cossie

so, anyone?

would drill holes and weld captive nuts on the front ARB personally.

i.e like most are.

dont think rivnuts would be up to it ?

but i've used them loads though, to hold bodykits and trim panels on.

Ryan - there is no way of getting into the chassis leg to be able to put captiv nuts in hence using rivnuts.

The ARB will be under hardly any load at all due to the way the suspension is designed

rivenuts will nut hold your anti roll bar, dont think for one minute that it has "hardly any load".

2" - we aint talking a cosworth here, obviously some people have never seen the ARB setup on a bmw E30

Cosworth - antiroll bar stops the wheels flapping about

E30 - the antiroll is there purely as a roll bar, the wishbones and the lollipops stop the wheels flapping about

Can you make a plate with the nut welded to the back, then open up the hole in the car just enough to clear the nut.

Push the nut up through the hole then weld around the outside of the plate?

It will drop the roll bar by the thickness of your plate, but should be ok?

Does that make sense?

Steve - makes perfect sence, but i really do not want to cut any holes in the car, looking at other viable options first

Steves idea seems viable
The only other possible solution would be some form of aerospace grade glue but glued chassis scare me

Yep - used some 3mm plate and then welded 2 stud nuts (nuts that are an inch tall) onto them, drilled 2 holes into the chassis, and then welded the plate on, properly firm and secure
