here

Basically: Clean - Polish - Protect

Wash & rinse
Claybar (to remove surface contaminants; diesel fallout, sap etc.)
Paint cleaner/polish (also nourishes the paintwork).
Wax to protect freshly cleaned/prepared paintwork.

Then just keep on top of bird crap etc. using quick detailer.

Personally, I like the Swissol range, Rene, but you may not like the price But it is worth it, and lasts absolutely ages (years!) if used correctly, so works out very cost effective in the long run.

p.s. I don't venture into concours much as my car is far from....

have to say im a meguiars boy.and i sell all sorts where i work.

the clay is exellent. then step 2 polish then 2 thin coats of nxt gen tech wax leaves a proper finish, but make sure you use the microfibre towel to take waxes off! and if you do the tyres use the high gloss gel it lasts whereas the hot shine spray isnt anywhere near as good.
hope this helps

That's about right Rene - the quick detailer provides lubricant for the claybar.

Only use the cleaner wax if your paintwork is really grotty (dirty, stained - generally nasty!)

I use:

NXT wash, Quick Clay, NXT gen wax OR Gold class wax. Hotrims wheel cleaner and Hot shine tyres.

If you use too much polish, or you leave it to dry hard, just use a small squirt of Quick Detailer (comes with quick clay) and buff it with a micro fibre cloth.

I take it you're talking about the car in your signature?

I'd recommend claying with Poorboy's clay, as it's stronger than the Meg's, and more suitable, especially if the car hasn't been done before.

Polish with Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze (not a glaze, it's a polish with a deceptive name...), then glaze with Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze to richen the shine. Seal this with Poorboy's EX-P to pop the flake (or normal EX to hide the flake if you're after a different type of finish), and finish off with Natty's Blue.

That'll give you an excellent finish. It's easy to obtain finishes at least equal to products like Swissol/Zymol etc, for a much cheaper price, just by buying the products that are best for your colour, without the 'boutique' price tag.

HTH

Thanks Rick, i try my best I like to think that with a bit of advice, everyone can get a finish that they're really pleased with, without wasting money on stuff they don't need - let me do that I've wasted loads of money on Zymol over the years, to find it made my shine worse than products a tenth of the price

But, it's taught me what you should use instead

Crikey the bufties are creeping out now. 6 months ago most of the replies on here would be about how AutoGlym and Meguiars are 'the daddies'

Good to see more people using Poorboys and Clearkote products. People need to realise that just like tuning products the best detailing products aren't going to be found in your local Halfords.

My recomendation for a supplier is www.seriousperformance.co.uk or if you need stuff from the states www.autopia-carcare.com

Miss out step 4 if you are going use NXT or GC.

Both contain mild cleaners and will remove the polish

A pure wax with no cleaners ie P21S or similar will deepen the gloss

It depends on the wax really, some waxes work better on certain colours. What works on black may not work on white. P21S is a great suggestion. Different waxes can give different types of shine too, some give a deep wet look and others a more satin like shine.

Somethings to consider:
1. You don't need to polish a car all the time, just top up the wax
2. Cheap car shampoo will strip wax off
3. More products are not always the answer

I have a black car and when it comes to wax I use Poorboys EX-P synthetic sealant with Pinnacle Souveran on top.

For an everyday working car I recomend Collinite which isn't the shiniest but is one of the toughest, ideal for winter.

I like Souveran too but it then starts getting a bit dear

I honestly cant tell much (if any) difference between that and p21s / s100 on either solid balck or met black (I think ginges's is ebony).

p21s over nxt :

But Souveran smells of banana!

Yeah I've not actually tried P21S but all the reports and pics seem great. I think you can buy it from most Harley Davidson dealers although I may be wrong.

I'm not sure if you can apply P21S in direct sunlight though? I know you can with Souveran.

This is Souveran, as said there's nothing in it really.

Not used nattys but have heard good reports.

The 'proper' wax's I use and can comment on are Megs #16, #26, P21s and Souveran (which does smell the best )
