Default escort cosworth diffs

HI,

Escort coswoth, just a querie does the car have limited slip diffs front
and rear, i know the rear has one, but in the gearbox the transfer box viscous coupling, is this just to distribute to 34% to front and 66% permanent 4wd, as the front diff has no limited slip just cross pin and gears.

Regards Dave.

Thanks gareth. i know the front diff is just a normal cross pin diff,
just did'nt know if the viscous in the transfer box affected anything torque wise to the front diff like a lsd.

the picture nin the top right hand corner, but the ford box uses 3 smaller gears rather than 4 as shown
this splits the torque 1/3rd to the front and 2/3rds to the rear

Gareth,

No problem on how the diff planet gears work , as the front diff was not
a lsd, i thought that the transfer box viscous may of acted like some sort of a lsd, thats all. seems like as said just splits the torque front to rear
34/66.

Dave, It's the centre DIFF that does the torque split, the viscous coupling has no part in that - in the normal sense of a viscous coupling it serves to minimise the speed differential between front and rear axles during traction slippage situations. In normal circumstances with full traction front and back, the centre diff splits the torque 40/60 (ok that's rounded up figure) and the viscous coupling does nothing.
