I know Dingy, Karl, and myself have discussed this a few times, but I need to know who else is running an oil cooler without the water/oil modine under no.2 injector.
I need to know about removing this:
1. How does it come off with the engine in situ?
2. What do you do with the two water pipes that run into the modine?
3. Any adverse effects?
Help appreciated

I have just put a oil cooler on mine and decided to leave it on.As
1 i dont think it will come off with engine hangar on engine as the 2 pipes that come out of it are to big.(Edited to say i forgot about it didnt have to turn.Just take off big nut and it will fall off.)
2 It is there to heat the oil up on initial startup and i think that is a good thing as the oil dont work properly until warm.
The 2 pipes are discarded if you do take it off and you need to make up a pipe that goes from heater matrix to head instead.
If you need a filter that will fit if you decide to keep modine Pm me.

and mine of course rich, i HAVE to copy ding and karl you see
...or maybe cos the filter wont fit on with 2 sandwich plates cos of the engine hanger (all of which are different on yours mind)
1 you remove the bolt that goes through it and into the block thread and it falls off the block....was that a trick question pal, dont get it
I fitted mine in situ so that tells you the difficulty level lol fitting the hoses to the new sandwich plate with the inlet manifold on now thats another story
2 take the one from the heater matrix and route it direct to the back of the head. i did this by hacking up the nice new samco set you sent me
....i used the angles i needed and inserted copper pipe (plumbing stuff) in the hoses and clamped em tight with hi-grip juby clips.
3 no but as i have no oil temp gauge i aint likely to know lol
i fitted my cooler because of the pressure issue i had with the pump i.e. it was resprung for use with a cooler so went stupid high without one
HTH

I have run a 19 row oil cooler for a couple of years, but always run it with the modine heat exchanger in place.
Karl has mentioned that it's not necessary, especially for a track car.
Here's a couple of pics of what I WAS running in the old car:

With the new car and the Group A engine mounts, I can't physically fit the sandwich plate on with the modine in place.

Stretch,
It's absolutely NOTHING to with the filter, as my car has group A engine mounts.
You can't even fit the sandwich plate on, let alone a filter.
My engine mounts look like this:

Cant really tell by that photo. But if there enough room for the modine and Original filter.I think there would be room for modine sandwich plate and a different filter.
But i may be wrong and as you said your car is purely a track car so you could run without modine i suppose.

Mr C,
I've had the oil cooler in before -I'll posts some pics up when I get a sec.
Ad for the engine mounts, it would appear that these are a Ford Motorsport part on my car - will put some pics up tonight.

I think your setup on the old saph was far too complicated looking at the pictures. You only need 3 hoses in total, and 1 sandwich plate.
Remove the water modine and place in the garage / bin
Then fit sandwich plate to engine block, with the outlets facing upwards. It looks like you used Pirtek or a similar hose company for the hoses, get them to fit "compact" 90 degree fittings to the hose at the sandwich plate end, this will give you more space in that area.
Then you have one hose going from the sandwich plate to the remote oil filter block. Then one hose going from this to the oil cooler, then one hose going from the cooler back to the sandwich plate.
As for the water hoses, the shorter one is redundant, the longer one is used with some new hose goes straight onto the outlet at the back of the cylinder head.
This is how i have it on my car, but i haven't got any pics or my car here to take any pics
