Default Motorbike Direct Access Advice

Ok, been bombing about to and from work to london on my 50cc scooter and its given me a bit of a taste for bikes

Really would like a GSXR 600 - I know these are powerfull bikes but I hope that Im grown up enough to treat them with respect.

I've just called my local motorcycle training place about a direct access course and a 5 day course is £629! Bit of a shocker! But the includes everything, courses, bike and clothes hire (but I've got my own gear), tests etc...

Knowing nothing about bike courses / tests is this resonable? Is there a cheaper way to do it?

Depending on your experience and how good you are on a bike….I did mine in 3 days recently including the CBT for £385 all in [although that is oooppp North so it’ll be cheaper up here]

Day 1: CBT
Day 2: Training
Day 3: ½ Day Training
Day 4: ¼ day training + test

£629 is not bad for a 5 day course, of course a 3 day is going to be cheaper but it depends on your experience which is right for you.

Well like I say, all I've done so far is about a 6 weeks on a moped in and out of london. No gears or power to worry about - infact its quite a challenge getting off the lights before the cars!

think im looking at the full 5 day course really.

think i paid about £450 in 2000

But they do get you through it

As Gurne said depends how good you are on a bike.

I had my first bike at 11, on the rd 16& 17, raced motocross at 23 ish and had been driving on the rd for 18 yrs

I still found it requires a lot of concentration over the 3 days

good luck pal hope you get it sorted
Bikes are so much fun in the summer

If you did the car theory test when you got your car licence then you will need to do another theory [like I did], which is a joke when you’ve X years driving experience!!

If you thought ahead and did the theory test which covers bikes & cars when you did your driving theory then you’re a clever boy!!

I think thats still a reasonable price.

I did mine over 10 years ago and it was about £450 for 4 days. Originally it was 3 days but decided I would like another day of practice, well worth in the end.

a lot of places will do an assessment and tell you how many days they think you need. we paid about £400 for ours about 18 months ago. best thing is to ring around and see what is included in the price. you would need a 600 bike to practice on and they will lend you one which is why can be very dear. also dpends if on 1-1 teaching as that is dearer too but best way to do it get if over with in a week.
