Default Yamaha R1 or 400bhp Saff

Opinions please,

i currently have a 400bhp saff and i love the car loads but im becoming more and more keen on bikes. The bike i have in mind is a Yamaha R1, just after some info on these, running costs, performance and rideability. what do they feel like compared to a saff with 400bhp. ? anyone have an R1 at all?

cheers fellas

Running costs - Fuck all compared to a cosworth
Performance - How quickly do you want to die?
Rideability - It's got a seat, foot pegs handlebars and a throttle. what more do you need!

Fast. Not as quick top end as a blackbird but quicker accelerating. 0-60 about 3 seconds 180mph top speed or sommat? Theyre just guestimates as no one really states the specs of em. Search for R1 posts by bosch-man on here to see his impression of his first ride on the r1 he's just bought

Dont buy one if you;ve never been on a bike before, that just stupid.

Bikes arent like cars, and the two shouldnt be compared really cos they both have plus's and minus's.

An R1 will do 0-100 in under 6 seconds. 1 gear on a zx10r goes to 102mph.

But you'll soon get bored of going fast in a straight line, thats why you never see many bikers on motorways, but loads of the feckers on country roads. Twistys is where you wanna be on a bike but it not about how fast your bike is. By all means if speed is you bag, nos it up and fit all the trick bits you can buy each to there own.

All depends how you're going to ride it really. No reason why an R1 wouldnt be ok as a first bike as long as you treated it with respect. I wouldnt think twice about buying an R1 as a first bike but then I know what i'd be like riding it same reason I wouldnt be bothered going from my little fiesta to a 1000bhp skyline or sommat if I had the money. They only do what you tell them too

Nah mate. I've never ridden a road bike... legally. I had a YZ250 motocross bike up until last year though. That was good fun when we got a load of us out on them down the local quarry, good times..

I think so, I was at the moto bike shop and the bloke advised me that the perfect bike for a early starter is a new Suzuki GSXR 600, his opinion obviously but he laughed when I started asking about R1`s and ZX10-R`s

Martin, I`ve had my R1 for 4 years now & its plenty of fun.

do find i grow a pair of horns & a pointed tail when i ride it though

Have to say that I, & the majority of R1 owners, cant ride it to potential cretainly on the road

Advise to you would be; Dont make it your only mode of transport Make sure you have a car to run around in & keep the bike for fun

Here you go :-

Top speed = 177.62mph in 33.75 seconds

Bike Yamaha R1
Acceleration
Speed Time
0-60 3.48
0-70 4.02
0-80 4.69
0-90 5.30
0-100 6.00
0-110 6.95
0-120 7.90
0-130 9.22
0-140 10.68
0-150 12.78
0-160 15.56
0-170 21.58

Standing 1/4 mile = 10.90 seconds @ 141.58mph
Top speed = 177.62mph in 33.75

A 400bhp Cossie wont compare, but some will .

Zxr1200 mate is the best bet also the ginxer is a very able bike and gives the r1 a run for it's money.
But thenm iff it's speed and cornering and you have owned a cossie and cost dont matter a rs250 2stroke wicked bit off kit and will give a big bike a run for it';s money on acceleration and on the twistys

I'd prefer the R1 myself but that's only because it would cost a very very small fraction of what Rod's saff cost to build

I use an R1 most days for work and it's brilliant !!!!

However out of all the thous it's a bit peaky.

If you haven't had much experience of a thou, go for a Blade. They are just as quick but easier to ride fast. I sold a CBR1000RR to get my R1 as the Blade didn't have any attittude if you know what I mean.

The Blade is very smooth and deceptive were as the R1 is a lot more in your face, louder and edgy.

Just bear in mind that on an R1 you have to be 'on it' a lot more than the other's as the power is quite high up.

What a bike though !!!!!!!!!!!!
