Default URGENT - Grp A Fuel pump fitting - leaks... :wall:

I really would like the cossie back on the road tonight since our trusty saab seems to have blown it's turbo seals

It's a 2wd cossie, I got a fitting kit from A1 (pics below), looks like when fitted I get a leak either at the thread, or, where the washer is.

Questions:
-Is the washer supposed to seal, or is it just an "ordinary" washer.
-Are you supposed to put some hylomar/ptfe on the adapter kit's thread ? (I haven't tried and not sure it's a good idea )

Many thanks
Greg

That aluminium washer is a seal and it looks out of shape to me. You can replace it with a copper washer.

It is out of shape because it didn't sit 100% central when I first fitted it, I later realised is was a little skewish.

I then refitted it properly, but if it's a seal it will never seal properly now

Question is: where can you find one of these on a sunday afternoon

Oh, and thanks for the quick response

Do you have a Halfords near by? Or another accessory shop? I know you will probably pay through the nose for it but thats why these places are open on a Sunday!

If not, try B+Q etc....

They are a pain in teh arse Greg, always bloody leak. Dowty seal is a better bet if you can find one to fit well.

Use something to flatten it out then warm it up (it won't glow but get it very hot) and let it cool naturally. It will soften up and you will get another chance to fit it. Make sure it's tight.

Bosch-Man
Problem is that the washer doesn't sit right, it's slightly too wide to be held in place by the threaded adapter and "wobbles", so holding it in place when you screw the adapter in is a nightmare, get it wrong once and that's it

Dowty seal is a washer that got rubber around the inside edges to give a better seal.

Also had my fittingkit from A1 but I never used the washer supplied, got a copper one that had a better fit and had no problems with leaks.

Andreas, where did you get the copper washer from ?

I'll try and see if my local hydraulics (sp?) hoses and fitting company has some of these dowty seals, look around on the web and they look the business

Dowty washer. Same as a Mondeo sump plug washer.

Should be able to get either a dowty washer or a copper washer from a hydraulics company.

The problem is almost always because the thread on the fitting is wider than the area below it .... Allowing the sealing washer to seat incorrectly

I meant it's the same design as a Mondeo sump plug washer!! Not that the sump plug washer would fit!

Craig, you're a star as always, will pop round if I can't find one of these wotsits stu suggested I use.
PS: we brought some cheese back from france for you, but leaving it next to the amp in the boot for a 7 hour drive, er, didn't do it any favours, so we stuck it in the bin

martin
That's exactly the problem, I didn't notice at first and when I screwed the fitting in, nice and tight, the washer was kinda sunk in the pump and twisted Surely, I am not the first to have that problem, why don't the fitting kits come with proper washers in the first place, they aren't exactly cheap for what they are either

DazC
Thanks for clearing that up, I would have popped round to ford's for nothing

it's because the fitting is not designed for that purpose!
