Just got an E-Mail from Dan the organiser that it has been cancelled with FULL refund.

The 2004 Britballrun has been cancelled – full refunds will be made.



You may be aware that for no reason at all, without prior notice, and at the last possible opportunity a senior police officer of the West Midlands Police recently went on BBC Midlands News and announced unproven safety and social concerns of the Britballrun and compared the event to an illegal street cruise/road race placing lives at risk. I was on holiday at this precise point of time.



To date we have followed, to the letter, the correct method of applying for licence to run such an event. We have received full approval to proceed from a number of constabularies. The governing body of all car events (the Motor Sports Association) rigorously reviewed our [expensive] licence application and our organisational methods and found no concern.



During the one year of planning, we had researched and understood every relevant legislation and have been praised for undertaking such a bold venture in such a professional manner. To supplement this, we have also undertaken detailed safety and risk assessments and necessary public relations exercises (such as regulations insisting on personal visits to every household obtaining signatures of approval within 0.5km of every stop point!).



The police officer made a number of unfounded allegations about our event which caused some adverse reactions that are totally unsubstantiated. He did not approach us, or the Motor Sports Association, for comment before going on-air. We made first contact with West Midlands Police 11 months ago for their advice. This very short notice left us with no time to resolve his issues or to fully understand why he decided to express these concerns in such a manner.



We have unfortunately therefore decided to cancel the event for this reason only, and as such, I believe it only fair that all entrants should receive full refunds - we have come so far and I will not allow this to defeat us, but I strongly believe it would be improper to let you enter an event that is ‘perceived’ to be unsafe and anti-social.



We trust that you understand that the 2004 event cannot proceed.



Please be reassured that this cancellation was not down to lack of effort on our behalf.



We now have two options immediately available to us:

- Consider taking legal advice against these allegations (advised to us), or

- Work with this constabulary.



We have recently been able to contact WM Police and have discussed these options with them. They have somewhat acknowledged their lack of understanding over our efforts to make this event as safe and courteous as possible and have made numerous errors in their judgement. This goes to help our first option, as our credibility and goodwill has indeed been severely damaged.



However, this does not go to satisfy our objective of successfully owning and running a British Cannonball Run – as such we will be discussing the second option and accepting a proposal of their support in running a 2005 event.



In addition, please note that Blue August who were to film and follow the event for Men and Motors have agreed to be involved in a potential 2005 event as they believe in our strong position.

Take legal action - police f*ck you every chance they get, unless you are some gyppo pikey scum bag, and then they won't touch you.

They'd sure as hell sew your arse if you made unfounded accusations on their police constabulary on TV/Radio. It's a chance to get at the senior police officers - the ones IMO who are the problem in the police, with their political correctness, and directives to prioritise "speeding and anti-social behaviour" rather than catching burglars and muggers.

If you don't take legal action, what's stopping them, or another force screwing the event next year with a similar claim???

Cant belive it! This was going to be the biggest thing i had done, the police always stick there noses in when it sounds like there is a bit of fun to have!
