Didn't hear it (had Virgin on at work)
But....
There no such album as RELOADED Load : yes... Reload : Yes... Reloaded? No
Secondly, the S&M version is longer, and has full orchestral backing. If it was a studio recording and had an orchestra in it, it would be the "elevator" version of it (released as a B-Side to the Nothin Else Matters single in 1992)
If it was a single acoustic guitar with just Hetfield singing on it's own, it's probably a live version recorded at either Donnington Download (Radio 1 sponsor) or possibly from the "Poor Touring me" tour (96-97-98 tour for the Load/Reload albums)

Just listened to it (found the podcast of Colin and Ediths show) and it is the "Elevator Version" that was on the 1992 single.
Story behind that song is, Michael Kamen (the guy that wrote the scores for the S&M album and conducted the orchestra - has also worked with LOADS of bands and orchestras : The Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, amongst others) wrote the score for the orchestral parts in Nothin Else Matters. What you hear in the Elevator version is what was actually recorded. When it came to mixing the song for the album tho, the band felt a tad uneasy about such a "soppy sounding ballad" (Lars quote) and the orchestral score was trimmed and pushed well low in the mix. The original "band" version of Nothin Else Matters is how the song was originally recorded. The Elevator version is basically the original orchestral score, redubbed with Hetfield and Hammet on acoustic guitars, with Hetfields vocals. Lars and Jason didn't play on this version.
The original score was later used again by Kamen for the S&M concert but tweaked slightly to take advantage of the full band setting on stage.

Spadge - Nice! But the "Elevator" version (that was played on Radio 1, and that I am talking about) is not on your vinyl. The last track on that vinyl is a demo version as recorded on Lars analog 8 track in his basement! James and Lars recorded pretty much everything on 4 or 8 tracks together before taking to the rest of the band and piecing a track together in the studio
Send me your email if you want a copy of this elevator version 6mb file tho
Dan - on the way chap

Yeah I know about the album but atleast I got the important bit right
Why is it though, that when radio 1 play metallica its always either nothing else matters of enter sandman?
Same with iron maiden its normally either number of the beast or run to the hills.
Spadge, was a big suprise when I saw you in the dance tent getting down to some oldskool at fordsport a couple of years ago, but would never of thought you would be a metallica fan
Excellent choice my old ginger ninja

Benn - cos they are the only two Metallica songs that are "socially accpeted" by the puny minded cretins that make up music charts
Tho they did have a fairly big "pop" hit with "The Memory Remains" from the Reload album (or was it Load? Can't remember) - they made it onto Top Of the Pops and The Chart Show with that one
Every now and again you get a "rouge" track on the radio - I remember listening to GLR 94.9 and them playing Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the name of" at midday - tho they edited the word "fuck" out of every line of "fuck you I won't do what you tell me"
So all you got was "(pause) you! I won't do what ya tell me!" about 13 times

And reading that on your LP has confirmed something I wasn't sure was true - the orchestra on the recording is the LSO - London Symphony Orchestra! The principal percussionist I know quite well and have worked with many times over the years
