Over 20000 square miles was contaminated and is currently deemed unsafe to live in. only a small percentage of this will be unsafe for thousand of years mainly around the immediate area of the plant and the water table that was contaminated.

What report was this as all the greenpeace shite bends the statistics to make it look worse than it is. Same with the UN reports to a lesser degree. I don't doubt that some of the land will be unsafe for 244000 years, its just that that will be only a small percentage of the land contaminated.

Unfortunatly politicians can bend statistics easily to give you the information they want. Same with the press stories to sell papers or other political organisations to suit thier aims and objectives.

Old Soviet underfunded, run in burcratic way and this is what happened

TBH i think Nuclear power is V Safe. And i think this country is going to have to build more, or invest in reneable energy and stop relying on goal, Gas etc as we will then be subject to getting the materials from abroad which might stop and also we would have no control over the prices so house etc would keep paying more for electric.

I still can't beleive the government claims gas fired powered plants are the short term future. Yes it may take 10 years to rebuild the nuclear industry but its needs to be done NOW.

Anti-nuclear protesting may be popular but I bet people's attitudes will change when we have regular national power cuts or people start paying Ł500 a qtr electricity bills.

If you can find a better way of powering a nation then I'm sure the government will be all ears!

Give it 5 years or so and the scientists should be at a stage to implement Nuclear Fusion power stations - which will increase the efficiency of power plants

I've lived only 20 odd miles from a Nuclear Power station (Dungenness) and I've not once lost any sleep or worried about it going up. I've even been on a school trip around the place and tbh it was very impressive and if anything reassured me that Nuclear power isn't the devil in disguise the media and far-lefty green twats make it out to be.

Fuck - if it wasn't for Nuclear power you wouldn't be able to type this crap onto the internet anyway!

Oh and if you want to blame the government for anything - blame Gordon Brown for forcing BNFL to sell Westing House the other year. Now we're going to have to wait in a queue for new Nuclear power stations to be built by a company we used to own!

All for a short term gain and now we're going to suffer some long term pain!

Just a tad optimistic I recon...

It will be 2015 before they finish building the next part of JET to carry on the next stage of experiments.

That's as maybe - but why not use Fission in between now and then?

I don't really see a viable alternative in all honesty! Either that or we pack up all our electrical gadgets and electric cars and go back to chalk and blackboards and cups with bits of string

Heres a quote from Howard Marks

The use of cannabis hemp as an alternative to fossil fuels has received less coverage, but it is suggested that the hemp can reverse the greenhouse effect, effectively saving the world from global warming.

Jack Herer, author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, claims, unequivocally, that this plant can save our planet from pollution and desolation, since it has no need of pesticides or chemical fertilisers, and can be grown on the same land year after year.

Replacing petrol and coal as fuel, and replacing trees as a source of paper this plant, cultivated widely, would reverse the greenhouse effect.

The use of cannabis hemp as biomass energy to replace fossil fuels was first recognised in the early 1900's by the likes of engineers such as Henry Ford.

Ford's first Model T was even designed to run on cannabis fuel and most of the bodywork was made out of hemp too.
