Default Bluefin

Pardon my ignorance with these. Is it possible to borrow one off someone and plug it in and change the setting's on the Mondeo?? Or do you actually have to buy one and have it plugged in all the time?? Just trying to save £500 really

It's a Superchips device for Fords (and some other vehicles). Plugs into the diagnostics port and provides a performance gain, like you get with a 'Chip'.

They also have some diagnostics capability.

As others have said. Rob is your man for that.

Is it not cheaper to get a chip live mapped from say MSD than buy this Bluefin as I know nothing about these bluefin chips I would have thought a mapped chip would be better.

In some ways, yes. I still believe that a 'Custom' chip will produce better gains.

However, the main benefit of the Bluefin is the ability to put the car back to standard if you want.

It's kind of swings and roundabouts.

I went for the Bluefin instead of a live map, as like people have said it can be put back to OE for warrenty work

They also act as a diagnostic code reader and a full ECU imobiliser (Wipes the ecu TOTALLY blank)

Once the Bluefin has been installed on the car, it can only be used on THAT car. It is locked to it.

You can get the Bluefin "reset" by Superchips for around £70, or so i've been told. So might make sense for you to go halves with a mate on the whole shebang i.e. purchase & reset cost.
Seems like a good idea to me, just need to find someone trustworthy that wants their FRS doing...

Sorry Rob,

There are ways around the ONE ECU ONE TIME USE as I heard of someone
who has helped his friend use his on at least 4 cars that I know off.

There is NO such thing as a secure system (ask Sky TV )

How does it work then?

Few peeps on the RSOC board seem to be under the impression that they can be reset for a fee and therefore sold on etc...

Please enlighten me if it can't be done.

plynchy,

Dont know wether or not superchips will do that - but as Rob is an agent
I guess his original answer is the best one you will get officially.

I should add this is NOT something I can help anyone with as that
would be illegal and quite wrong being a software devloper myself.

Keep an eye out at National day.....you never know what you might be able to buy.

I'd have to look at the thread again but i'm sure someone had asked the question so he could transfer his own bluefin unit onto another vehicle, and was able to get it reset by Superchips.
Be interested to know...

There is also a guy on the ST Owners club that is selling his ST TDCi Mondeo.

He said that he can send the Bluefin back to Superchips, they will reprogram it for a fee and he can then sell it on/use it on another car ect ect.....

Must admit, i thought it would of been a use once and thats your lot type of deal

So the reset thing, is it possible? Even if you are the original buyer with proof etc?

Rob@SCC Performance,

If anyone thinks any electronic system is 100% secure then they
are diluding themselves big time.

I am sure the official line from your employer/supplier will agree with
your statement but all systems are open to abuse from hackers.

E.G. Sky TV analog was 100% hacked before the digital version took over.
and even now, the digital channels are being watched illegally by some.
(not me of course)

If I thought I could earn some good money out of it as a bet
(with Super Chips blessing of course) , I could prove it to you myself
from my own engineering experience alone.
Just takes time and inclination.

Many companys employ professional hackers to find out weekness's
in products to make them better.

Not saying Bluefin is a bad product before anyone says otherwise.

I'm confused now.

Just been chatting to a local Cossie/tuning expert (been in business quietly for AGES) and he was talking about a module that costs about £2k that can be used repeatedly on any compatible Ford. What is that??
One of his customers bought one and used it on his FRS and his diesel transit ( ) etc etc.

Just curious to know really. Bluefin seems very expensive to me for the gains it gives, or maybe i'm just a tight northener.

Put your car back to std before selling then return it to superchips with a chq for £235 then you can install it once returned on your new car
