Just come home to find my other car, which I've been working on for about year, has had an abandoned car notice stuck on it by the council WTF! I know it hasnt moved in about a year, but its directly outside my house, is tax and insured and registered to me and everyone on the street knows its mine as I'm always outside working on it.
So someones obviously had enough of seeing it and reported it abandoned, but dont the council check anything before sticking notices on cars? and what happens after 7 days? as it states "A notice will be served on this vehicle in the next 7 days if not removed" does that mean they'll try to move it themselves? Just phoned them but they dont work a full day like everyone else the lazy bastards, fucking 9:30-4:30
Whats the worst case scenario?

Phone them tomorrow and give them an ear bashing and point out the car is legaly parked is taxed, MOT'd and insured. Explain to them that if the car dissappears you hold the wholley responsible and will take the appropriate legal actions

Its not MOT'd though, will that matter? Bet your life I'll be on the phone tomorrow, but I thought I'd ask on here mean time see whats what.
can someone report any vehicle abandoned then? as theres no signs from the outside that its a non runner at present, for all they know it was parked there this morning, surely they try and contact the registered keeper first or something?

Last year I tried to report an untaxed car abandoned outside my house, by a neighbour, he had done the same thing 2 years ago with his last car and I got that removed by the council.
This time however I got a phone call from the council to say they could not touch it as it was registered to an address on the same road, and is not considered abandoned, even though it wasn't taxed. He wouldn't tell me where until I told him I knew who's it was.
In an attempt to help me he said he would drop a note through the registered keepers address asking if he wanted it removed, I saw him do that.
5 days later a recovery truck arrived, the neighbour came out with the V5 and the car was removed.

Yes mate its a tight street, hence why I park my other car right at the top outside an empty house, so it lets everyone else get their cars in, but its directly outside my bay window so its not outside anyone else house directly.
dont have a front garden, it goes, window-wall-street
I can understand if someone has got pissed off with it, but why the fuck not come and say something? surely thats easier than getting involved with the council?
Might see if I can tow it with the cossie to the garage and push it in, either that or get it running ASAP and get some test on it.

I have done some Abandoned/untaxed removals for Sandwell Council (West Midlands) as I have a tilt/slide recovery truck.
In no way could I touch a vehicle if I went for it and it had current MOT with the correct registration details on it
If I found the reported car and it appeared taxed I then had to phone the council to advise them
Sandwell Council DO attempt to contact the last registered keeper by post, if no reply or not moved they put a 7 day notice on the windscreen.
The a recovery agent gets the fax to remove and secure store the vehicle for a further 7 days
When that period is over the car can be :-
A - Sold for scrap
B - Broken for salvage
C - Sold as a repairable
D - Recovery agent can apply for a logbook and put car back on road
E - Charge the vehicles insurance company a Ł105 recovery + Ł12.50 per day storage if vehicle was stolen and the insurance claim ownership of the vehicle (within the 7 days)
Option E is why the recovery agent has to store vehicle for 7 days while the old bill check if the car is reported stolen
Basicly after 7 days in storage the vehicle becomes the recovery agents property !
My advise is call urgently any numbers on the sticker cause if you ignore then vehicle will vanish - take names and references for calls.
I was surprised how quick neighbours would move their cars to allow the recovery truck closer to snatch the car away - its as though they are glad the vehicles were going !
Dont beleive any bo*****s about "they cant touch it, its my car" etc etc etc
Councils seem to have more power than Police when it is covered by The Environment Act

You might also find the reason they didnt come to you directly was because they might have you assumed you would tell them to piss off and if you did and they went to the council, you would know who it was.

DOES it actually need MOT
An MOT proves the car is in a safe state to be DRIVEN on the road, aint exactly like the brakes are gonna fail or a bearing collapse and cause an accident.
BUT
you pay tour tax to allow a car to "use" the road (and you only want to use it for parking on and not damage it by actually driving on it
)
And Yes the car MUST be insured to be parked on the highway as it could be involved in an accident, ie someone could walk into it and sure now days they would be able to sue you somehow
.
Personally I would spend a couple days "looking into it", if for no other reason as to not be seen backing down to some old missery gut neighbour

Phoned up the council, and actually spoke to the women who stuck the notice on the car, conversation went;
Me: I'm phoning about the notice stuck to my car at 'my address'
Her: oh yes, so its your car and isnt abandoned?
Me: no, I work on it reguarly and its not abandoned.
Her: I thought so when I saw it, looks like its involved in some sort of motorsport, remove the notice and ignore it, I'll send you a form to fill in which just states you're the registered keeper, then if anyone else reports it we can tell them its not abandoned.
Fucking result, was impressed with the motorsprt comment, it is totally stripped out inside with a bucket and harness, so she wasnt far out, and wasnt really intrested in anymore details, didnt ask whether it had tax, test or insurance
cant believe thats all there was to it, I was on the phone less than 2 minutes
Although this has kicked my arse to try and get it ready, stripped the turbo down today and got it packaged up for the courier from turbo techinics to fetch it tomorrow, and just ordered a load of parts aswell.
nevermind the fookin neighbours I want it fookin up and running now
