roof rust nightmare

Default roof rust nightmare

few weeks ago after getting the car power washed two scabs on the roof blew through about size of 5 pence

just covered them with duct tape for now

about a inch behind the sunroof

yesterday having a look at the damage seems 4 more scabs are coming through

ive heard this rust is normally shell terminal death no way to fix it

cars due for a mot in 1 week ...

its 16 years old g reg saph and dont really want to lose it

no other rust on the shell and only failed last years mot on a corroded brake pipe

can the rust be cut out any ideas ???

Exact same problem on RSTs, if you weld it it'll distort the roof panel plus it'll come back

apart from big strip of duct tape

idea ask sticker paul to do me a 2 inch wide logo sticker

Not to hand ,im sure a search will pick something up on google etc ,not as bad a job as some will say ,more strip work tbh than panel work

Cut the roof off and fit one without a sunroof! More trouble than they are worth those sunroofs especialy when you can't use it as you get a sun burnt head

Bond a strip of metal in, rather than weld - 3M do a product that's applied by a gun that looks like an SA80, then fill. Guy I use for bodywork and paint showed it to me last week - says he fixes outer wheelarch repair panels with it.

Don't go desperate. Everything is fixable. Although it may be costly or hard to do.


I don' tknow that much about rust but new roof panel if avaliable doesn't seem unsensible.

badcompany call good bodyshop in your area, they will advice you surely. Roof is important for body rigidity so it can't be repaired in some amateur way.
