I had a rental harley while over in the states, actually very good at what they do, it was SO comfortable for long journeys, you could wind it up to 100mph+ and just sit there for hours without a problem at all (it had a screen though) where as on a sports bike doing the same you would be acheing like fuck.
What impressed me the most though was the speed you could take a long sweeping bend at, due to the engine being so low down the centre of gravity is actually very low and they seem to have lots of mechanical grip, they dont change direction very quickly so no good for a chicane but once setup on a long sweeping bend they really do carry some silly corner speeds.
They arent really about having them for their cornering performance though obviously, but just saying they are better than people realise.
Have to agree that they seem a big gay in this country, the only people who seem to ride harleys over here are people in the middle of a midlife crisis normally.
