Don't get me wrong, I love the Carlton, but the new BMW M5 has evolved into something that the Carlton simply couldnt live with at any time!

1: Don't you beleive it !!
And 2: I should think it has 'evolved' in 13 years !!

A supercar is an object that at least 90% of the time isn't used and just collects dust in the garage...
Never understood the concept of buying a car just to clean it...
Don't get me wrong I like minters and I like to take care of cars but their primary purpose is to be driven and in my country most of the existing supercars don't see the light of day...

I think I'd be a little more ready for him this time, as now I have approx 180BHP more than I did last time!!!!! LOL That should make it a little more even!!
Please dont get me wrong, I think that the Carlton was an absolutely stunning car (fastest saloon in the world when it was produced - so hard as nails!!!!)
Its just that I have had the pleasure of being driven in the new M5, and it is just mind-blowing!!
That said, given the cost of one, I would still have a second hand porsche turbo!

i'm still going through the mags with the write ups (i've got a fair few) but when i get the one with the gearing in i'll scan it and post it up
but it's along the lines of it doing 140 mph in 6th and turning over at 2500 rpm or the like
i think it was autocar that did the write up as they had one as a long term tester thing
one more thing you might find intresting, that 176 mph top speed was at about 5500 rpm in 5th which was a 0.75:1 ratio gear, 6th was obviously even taller

That's 160mph speed difference in a single gear
Edited to add:
I think the subtle difference here is that it was geared to do that speed in 6th gear, but would never reach it.
Top speed was in fifth, 6th was just a cruising gear, too long for the engine to pull it all the way to 305mph

I could hand make a gearbox that has the ability to go 400mph!!!! It doesnt mean that the car will ever do 400mph
Are you saying that Vauxhall and Lotus just made a shitty box that was totally inappropriate?
