remember most of them are hitting the the big 3 0 as I did a few weeks ago!!!

wouldn't mind getting on there though, never been on any young rigs, always rickity old dumps!

the cinema's are good for hooking up PS2's, playing GT4 and battering round the Ring with full suround sound

bet they'll tell you you are going then bump you and you sit at home for weeks...FOR A CHANGE!

Paul
Which rig is that being put together then?

StuMSD
Imagine when they put the first rigs together compared with the technology there is today!
As it happens i was speaking to one of the guys here last night about when he started offshore and he started in 1972 and was on the first UK platform in 1974 which was the montrose alpha.
I have been on the claymore which was built 1976/78 something like that and its shocking in parts. the handrails are roosty as fook! you can walk along holding it and come to a brand new section and think to yourself now why is that bit replaced but the rest isn't?

BTW
what happened to the transocean rather then?

chop

ps my rig just now was built nov 92 so guessing its one of the newer ones

That's incredible ... I'm fascinated by 'awesomely big' engineering stuff... quarry diggers, crushers, waterwheels, etc

It's the unstoppable power I guess... I'd love to see a rig being built.

Chops,

I'm not sure about the pic of the legs getting dumped but the ones of the module getting lifted into place is of the BP Clair west of Shetland.

Quite cool

It's a different world.

There's a company in Liverpool I think, called The Engineering Company.

They can hang most of a wind turbine off a sea crane and place it onto a platform slowly while measuring the waves coming towards the crane and compensating for it. So the turbine comes down onto the platform like it's all on dry land.

They are actaully called SEDCOTECH, my dad was manager of Sedco for years and they gave him a massive contract to go start his own 17 years ago.

Never heard of them!
We were told this week to go around and cover up all the old signs that still said Sedco Forex.
We found an old roll of Sedco Forex Schlumberger packing tape so as quick as the AB was covering them we were putting bits of the tape back up again.
I've also got a brand new Sedco Forex hard hat which i'm saving for the next rig visit!
