Default Ebay Guru's - Sniping?

Whats the deal with ebay sniping sites?

Are they worthwhile, or simply a scam to get people's ebay account details etc?

The price went over your maximum bid, what's your point? Why does it matter to you when that bid went in?

Or are you saying you would have upped your bid?

i just sold lots of chrome stuff on ebay, 1 lad was winning for 9 days 23 hours, 59 minutes and 50 seconds...

he lost all 8 items he was bidding on to people bidding on the last few seconds,

he emailed me asking if it was me that did it

Just some software that puts in your bid about 7 seconds before the auction ends so it harder for someone to outbid you. Check out the website auctionsniper.com and it will explain

I didn't realise it was as long as 7 seconds till I did some reading...

I guess my question should be:

"Do they offer any advantage over me sitting at home with a decent broadband connection and doing it myself?"

Yes.

You don't have to sit at home and do it yourself.

Neil.
I think you can change how long it takes to put in your bid. I think the normal setting is 7 seconds or so. They don't offer an advantage over you sitting at home. I use it for a lot of USA auctions, so some of them end in the middle of the morning so it comes in good then.

Or are you saying you would have upped your bid?

it's just the last minute flurry of posts that come in after you've been sittin gon a winning auction from since it started
if i bid Ł100 for osmething that starts at 99p and doens't move for the next 6 days and 23 hours and 59 minutes and THEN iget outbid by a snipper, i'm going to rightly be a little pissed off
but alls fair in love and ebay, it's just that i'm willing to pay for something up to a limit and if the bids come in a few hours before hand i can see if it's worth bidding a bit more
if the bids come in at the very last second you don't know if it's worth putting that extra tenner ontop of the bid to make sure you get what you want
there was the classic case of a quick shift kit for the mt75 box on the other week
started off at about Ł5 and i bid a tener on it, but in the last few hours it went to Ł44 and a bit, but you can buy them new for less than the total of the bidding so someone is playing silly buggers out there

but yes, i tend to put my max bid in and then wait for the alert saying iv'e been outbid for it, then go back and see if a few quid more will do the trick,if it don't then i'm happy enough to walk away

Just put your maximum bid on to start with - job done then.

How does the fact that one other person wants the item affect how much you will be prepared to pay for it?

but thats the beuty of ebay
to get your feedback up you can go and buy loads and loads of pointless 10p tat, as as long as you have paid for it no one is going to leave you bad feedback
sometimes i'll bid for crap that no one else would ever want, just to see how much it will go up to before it goes into the Ł territory

some eejits paid more than Ł3k for a paperclip chain!!!!!!
