Default Best base for Escos replica?

More questions from little old me!

If I were to entertain the Escos Rep idea, as I obviously can't afford a real one and don't like S2's, and wouldn't really go for an S1 for a couple of reasons, which would be best to start with: mk5 RS2K or mk5 XR3i?

If people could elaborate on why either is better, etc

If I went for it, I'd like to put an RST lump into it. What would be involved? Seems I could get a fairly cheap base car and I'd go for sorting the mechanics before the styling, be that regular escos or wrc style.

Cheers folks, I appreciate it.

You've lost me pal. Obviously it would require a fibreglass kit but what I'm asking is which is easiest to put the engine etc into etc etc, which has best handling as standard etc as they will be different depending on model and spec.

I know you didnt ask this but i will say it anyway

If you build an escos replica with another engine etc it will cost you quite a lot to build. Unless you can do all the bodywork paint etc yourself. You'll never make much money on it and you could of saved the money for a real one at a later date.

Why not get another fun fast ford to mess around with and then save your money for the escos?

I don't know which would be the best base model either. Sorry mate

Aye I know that

May yet get a loan for a Saph, just looking at different options.

Personally if you can do that i'd get a loan and get a saff. You'd end up spending alot more on a replica than you would on a decent saff.

IF you musth have replica, buy one thats done, cost a fortune to make a decent one and they never fetch much cash finished.

Why would you want an RST engine in it though?

Why not have a RS2000 engine and then do something with that, like supercharge it or turbo it or put it on throttle bodies or something, at least its a 2.0 16v engine thats probably in good nick anyway, any cheap RST engine you get hold of will probably end up costing you thousands to get rebuilt corectly and up to a decent power.

Personally i would much sooner have a basic 2wd saph though, i really cant stand replicas (i know mine doesnt have a cossie logbook but its hardly the same thing as driving the wrong set of wheels and not having any of the other bits) to me if it looks like an escos and then doesnt go or handle like one its just a bit embarassing really.

Surely if you need a loan to get a Saph you are probably gonna need a bigger loan to build an EsCos rep to a decent standard? ? ?
All show and no go is a bit pointless in my opion. How are you gonna feel when an Evo or something comes up behind you wanting to play or maybe even another Cossie ? ?

Have you ever driven a Cosworth? If not try and get a drive in a nice Saph and you will soon forget about building replicas!

So you can't afford the real thing, so you buy yourself a car that isn't the real thing, has no real resale value, and is still slow, uninspiring to drive etc

The car would look toss, as all replicas do, because as good as the Escort Cosworth looks, you buy one for the performance.

Jay - you clearly haven't got the cash for a 10k car etc, and taking a loan for a car that could cause you problems etc is a comlpetely idiotic thing to do.

Stop looking to throw good money after bad, and buy yourself a nippy, fun, reliable car that you don't have to throw money at. You'll be far better off in the long term.

OK OK! I give up!

I will stick to either a Saff or something similar. A half decent 3-4k-ish car.

Might get this deleted now as I can't be arsed having people tell me how daft I am!!

Jay, I think the thread should stay as a reminder to you that you should be saving your money instead of spending it on crack cocaine

Jay, why dont you start a thread asking for sensible suggestions on what car to get, and in that thread detail:

What you want from a car in terms of performance

How important looks are to you or not, and what your preference is, like od you prefer rally slag looking cars or classy looking cars or old skool cool etc

What amount of money you REALISTICALLY have to spend on the car

What amount of money you have available for annual maintainance and insurance

Anything else important to you, like "must have more than two seats as i reguarly have 3somes and need to be able to take the two girls home after" or whatever.
