Default Advice on cleaning K&N

Got a K&N cone filter which needs a bit of a clean and you're supposed to use the proper K&N oil. Basically can anything else be used in it's place ? Assume WD40 etc is out as would go straight into the metering head.........is the 'proper' stuff the only way ?

Cheers.

I wouldn't personally cut this corner, as it's the oil that holds the dust particles. Plus, the K&N stuff is coloured, so you can see when you've oiled it back up correctly, or where you haven't.

...or try Mike R - he does the filters, so sure he could supply the recharge kit.

I wouldn't have bought the Recharge kit. You will find that the Oil FAR outlasts the Cleaner. You can buy the Cleaner and the Oil separately, so IMO buy the smallest can of Oil and the largest bottle of Cleaner.

TBH Christian I've never done this before, and the car only does about 500 miles a year (yes, five hundred) so this won't be a regular occurence !! I'll see how I go and can guage it from there. Cheers for your input
