The 10% "rule" covers two things really:
1. Accuracy of the speedo.
2. Margin the police are prepared to give when setting up the cameras, etc...
Point no 1: The Thames Valley police website states this is no longer applicable, all recent cars are built such that the speedo over-reads in all circumstances. Hence there no longer is any allowance for this. Where this leaves those of us with older cars and slightly inaccurate speedos - who knows.
Point no 2: The margin is dependent on police force, the law states a speed limit, the police can choose how much they let drivers off with, but 1mph over, is 1mph over, so technically, you are speeding and therefore liable to be caught.
Hope this helps.

HE WONT GET ANYTHING AS GATSO'S AREN'T TYPE APPROVED FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC
The 10% 'rule' is simply a guidleline, as mentioned previously, I wouldn't like to rely on that nowadays.
Neil.

Sounds like a reversable camera to me.
Got them up near Epsom down this end, They sit in middle reservation of dual carriageway, and can be turned on their pole to do one side 1 week, and the other the next.
The reason GATSO cameras go off when you drive towards them is because there won't be any white lines for it to look at, thus it gets confused and flashes anyway.
A rear facing camera can't do you when it takes a picture of the front of your car, only truvelo's can take the front photos (and as with gatsos, if a truvelo takes a rear shot, it doesn't count)
We got a GATSO down my way which always flashes oncomming traffic, I always set it off.....once at 120mph, and i never heard anything through the post.

This wasnt in the middle reservation it was right across the other side of the carriageway so basically it was 2 lanes away from me & i was heading towards it - there were white lines on my side of the road too.

They just put the lines on both sides of the road to scare folk. Might as well do it while they've got the brush out
No worries at all AJ.
Seriously, I try and set every one I can off, and I've never had any problems at all...
