Default Please help, Know anything about golf 16v cooling systems?

Got a new mk2 H reg 1991 KR eng code mk2 16v. The guy i got it off said it had a water leak but had stopped and been fine since.

However he had the followings sysmtoms :

- No heating from inside car, cold air only

- heater matrix pipes that go into bulkhead were both warm/hot

- top rad hose was getting very hot and looked like swollen sausage as its size was getting wider than the jubille clips securing the pipe at either end

- bottom rad hose to thermostat housing was warm, nothing like top hose

- fan cut in an out perfectly

- no overheating or anything like that

- pressurised cooling system, as the car had been running for good 15mins an fan was off at the time, i took the header tank cap off and pssssthhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, water pissed out and bubbled out an over and all the pipes went soft but still no heating inside the car.

- no oil and water mixing at all or any signs of mayonaise white gunk andwhere

Thats about it, any ideas as to what it could be?

What are the symptoms and signs of a worn water pump?

hope you can help folks with my daily runner, lol

does that sound right that it would cause alot of pressure build up in the header tank?

thing is i'm abit unfamiliar with the 16v's cooling system, i think the thermostat is on the bottom of the block where the bottom rad hose comes from

Default hi mate

hi mate, i had one of these a minter, no heat from the blowers, sounds like the inlet valve to the matrix, common problem, look under the engine bay and follow the matrix pipes up to the bulk head, you should see some small valves, with a bypass on it, these clogg up and dont let water pass, so its bypassed, cut the valves out and replace with some tubing, this should sort it out, just have a flow in and out, no bypass, car will run sweat, and not pressure up,
