FAO - M3 people in the know..
Regarding the E36 M3 (3.2ltr Evo version) how easy and more importantly how expensive will it be to rectify over-fuelling on tickover?
Is this a big problem that could have caused other issue's with the engine elsewhere?
Thanks

Don't know Lee
A trader has one at 'trade price' but discloses this problem, if there is a chance that it's easily sorted then i'll have it and get it done but dont want to buy it and then have to spend a fortune sorting it out

Initial guesses are:
Wild Shrick cams.
Lambda sensor fault.
Airflow meter fault.
Possibly mixture actually correct but catalyst dead, thus fails MOT.
Your best option is to have a mobile management diagnosis expert visit the car onsite at your expense. Probably around Ł50. Money well spent IMO pal.

How many traders would give away a few "easy" quid..??
If the problem was easily rectified for a profit, they would have done it themselves I'm sure

My old evo ran quick at tick over when one of the 4 vanos's it had went. It over fuelled it massively! Not sure if this is your case tho as i know fooook all about them. 4 vanos's 2 clutch's a gearbox and 2 engines and a complete rear axle and carrier in just over a year!

Was a one owner from new when i got it and had full history with 52k on it.
Have to admit i did thrash the pants off it every second i was in it. The clutch just cant handle a thrashing and both clutchs (from and fitted by bmw) only lasted 7.5k. The gear box i blew 2nd whilst canning it. Vanos's just kept going?? First engine put a rod through the block at about 140mph. The second didnt even do 20 miles as it just let go (that was with the bmw tech driving not me). Was just a jinx!! But still one of the nicest cars i've ever driven. oh and in a year it went through 3 sets of tyres. Granted one set was on a track day Novel over

hmm dunno what happened to my reply..
I had one that was overfuelling on idle and fast idle enough to fail the MOT on emissions.
I noticed a very slight missfire on it when the revs were held and decided to stick some new plugs in it (as I was banking on plugs or coil packs) sorted it, sailed straight through the emissions.

m25. 5 in the morning on the way to work. A van just pulled straight out with no warning from the slow lane, i was in the fast lane and there was nobody about so i was doing my normal of setting a land speed record! Then bang!! Took along long time to come to rest. Ended up facing the wrong way in the dark with no headlights Oh and the van fooooked off! hurt abit but got to admit it stood a good kicking. Looked like an old packet of quavers after (it was dakar yellow)
