Default Should I or shouldn't I??????

Hi everyone

Have been running an idea through my head for a few months now and I thought that it might be a good idea to run it by people who know best? You lot!!!

I currently have a sapph cossie, it runs @ stage 3 pushing around 360 ish bhp. I love the car and it is quick! But i sometimes feel that stage 3 isn't so special anymore?? And thanks to all the people that love the blue oval world you are all pushing the limits!! Which is a good thing, but i want for something more!

So my dilemma is that should i invest my money into pushing it to the big 500 bhp?? I would love to hear your thoughts from people who have this power? is it worth is or is just a money drainer for clutches, brakes etc...?

All thoughts will be appreciated!!!!

Thanks for your time...
Darren

the 500hp engine is the easy bit, it starts to get very expensive when you uprate to decent brakes ( I would say AP 4 pots on 330mm's as a minimum) decent suspension, poly bushes, a diff that won't shit it's self every 2 mins, a decent clutch, if you got a 2wd then its a bit cheaper, a 4x4 box to handle decent power is £££
and a good mapping session all add to the cost
Basically, think of your original budget and double it then add a bit more

But a 500 HP cossie is an absolute weapon so try and get a ride in one before you commit to anything

I have the brakes on already aswell as the suspesion, bushes and clucth. have to look into diff's, and 4*4boxes. It is a rear wheel drive cossie, I only use it for the sunniest of days, so only a handful of weekends in the summer.

Will try and get a ride in one, thanks for your advice mate ,
Darren.

RWD makes it much easier Daz, don't have to fork out for a decent box, as the T5 will take 500hp quite happily, only thing is it will kill standard rear diffs quite fast, but there are a number of options to uprate them

Here's a rough guide.... and don't forget the ancillaries to keep the engine reliable. Based on what I did in order to end up with a reliable big bhp engine.........If I hadn't fitted some of the ancillaries, then i'd have ended up with an Un-Reliable Big Bhp Engine.......For not very long

Karl Norris Engine (Basically your engine rebuilt to Karls Spec, depending on what your looking for and what your going to use it for) Including, fully modified head with new valves, Turbo depending what you want or Karl recomends, Injectors, clutch, modified pistons, all machining and balancing.....Everything Including Mapping =£7,000 (This is for a complete engine.....Ready to drop in and go......Back to Karls for Mapping.)

Intercooler, Pre Cooler and Rad = £1000

Big Filter.....£100

Fuel Pump and appropriate Aero Quip Lines and fittings = £300

Quality Exhaust System = £500

Breather System and Aero Quip Lines and Fitting = £350

In Car Monitoring System (Act's, Boost, Fuelling etc) £300

Quaife Diff = £1000

There's £11,500 without even adding up the cost of all the small bits and pieces like fittings, clips, etc.

It ain't cheap, and you'll never ever get your money back should you decide to sell the car. So don't even think about it unless the car is perfect, and you don't intend to sell it in the near future.

Talking from experience............ But I do Love It.

There will be people who've spent more, and people who've spent less, But, That's basically what I spent to get where I am now.

I think it is possible to have loads of fun with 360bhp and upgrade everything and then take it on track. My Sapphire was a hoot at this power and so controllable.

I would love another one just for drifting, but I would get killed off the misses .

2 great bits of advice from Jim, and Mike ive only had my 3dr 6months, my first cossie, hasn`t been dyno`d or nothing, so dont know the real figures, but we think 370ish, but i totally agree with Mike, i think this set up is awesome, the way that Karl as transformed the car for me is awesome, its fast, without being mental, and hopefully will be reliable........ i think just go with your heart RsDarren

You could still blow around £3k on just getting it to handle right . Then you might find you could run rings around more powerful cars on track....

My 3DR was 370BHP and imho that was MORE than enough for road driving......as to be totally honest i was on my driving ability limits with that power and RWD anyway, More than that and i would of only been chasing figures for Pub talk ammo

And, like Mike said....a PROPERLY set-up 370bhp car on track will be AWESOME with a good drive...........(Marco )

Get the braking, handling/suspension, differential and anciallaries sorted first....On what you already have, and then do the engine last, otherwise you'll have well sorted stg 3 cars pissing all over you, even if you do have a big engine.

I'm stage 3 and intend to go for a 440bhp engine in the future but not untill I have the fixit gear set, Quaife diffs a thickwall front case, Reyland clutch and the rear beam sorted.. so its a long way off.
Stage 3 is good but not fast enough for me

500bhp is a waste of time/money on a road car imo.

I'd rather spend the money on handling/brakes etc

500bhp is just such a lovely number though.. Agree my Escos on greys and t34 is awesome...so why i have opted for 500 plus in a RWD saff aswell is a mystery and a total waste of cash Still, should make me shit my pants though

Thanks for the replies guy's

I't great geeting all the feed back off you peeps, but i think the reason that i am thinking about the big 500 is that the sapph i own was the old Performance Ford Sapph cossie. I love the car to bits and treat it to the best of everything and still is in pristeen condition.

BUT, when i go to the shows a lot of people seem to give me the 'it's a mint car, but you didn't make it what it is today' kind of look!!! ha

So, that's why i wanted to put something specail back into the car.

But might take Mike Rainbirds advice about the track car??? decision, decisions

Hasn't this got an MD240R on it? You could push the envelope further with a set of greys and a live map by one of the tuners? Would be a nice compromise and give you a good few more gee-gees without breaking the bank.... .

well not too sure have to check that one out??

good advice though

Field Motorsport did the whole of the engine work when Ben had it a few years back. So i know it's been set-up to a high standard. When i bought it he said that the car is running a lot lower power than it could be taken to with a bit of tweeking.

Will get the spec from home tonight and send it to a few of the tuners see what they come up with????

Will let you know how i get on, thanks mike

That is a very nice car you have if its still in the same condition

As said above the Greys and a Remap will sort you with a good fast reliable car
