Yeah man, would have no problem droping my bags infront of a women doctor.
When I went in for the snip, the clinic was 100% women. I had one shave me (which was TIP TOP )
Then three stood over me with smug grins on there faces while a fourth took a scalpal to my bollox. (that part was not so TIP TOP )

Phil,
That's 'cos you can't stand the hysterical laughter, pointing and "that looks like a penis but smaller" comments from the female doctors, whereas at least the blokes sympathise with you and tell you the old lie "don't worry, it's the way that you use it" !

I don't think it would matter to me whether the person mapping my car was male or female.
If they are good at what they do or should I say be able to competently do the job they're being paid to do, then I don't really see what difference it makes.
It could be a fooking chimp mapping it, if the end result is the same does it really matter?

i think a woman would make a great mapper for one simple genetic reason....
woman can multi-task, a bloke cant!!
i also wish i had my cam on my the other sunday, as my missus was mapping my car as i drove

Female plumbers are getting very popular in London now but that's down to single women needing there plumbing looked at and feel males will try and look at the wrong kinda plumbing.
I think for a female to be taken seriously she's got to get into the motorsport sector first. While chauvanism is still there in motorsport it's more about getting the job done right and females have always been proven to be more careful and diligent then males.

Good topic
I personally would have no problems using a female to tune my car
BUT a few of the points bought up are true
Mike R as always being honest has hit the preverbrial nail, most blokes i think would think of a female tuner as a bit of a joke and just something nice to look at untill cars they had worked on had beaten male tuners cars thus meaning they had to be BETTER not equal
Another good point was about there being more women interested in cars these days, so as said i believe women at least would be more "comfortable" with another women working on their car, I know from experience some of the places i taken my cars (not my present car/tuner ) dont exactly make women feel comfortable
From a mapping point of view there is NO reason why a woman cant be better than a bloke
BUT as also mentioned earlier tunning may be a different story im affraid depending just how on there own they are, unfortunately physically females just arent as strong as men, women can always say they can use bigger spanners etc but we all know sometimes you just cant get big leverage on things and pure strength has to win the day.
My sis loves working on her car and has plenty of knowledge but most times i have to loosen things off for her then she can carry on, she once fitted a starter motor on her mk2 escort had the postie help her take it off one day and help her refit the new one the next morning , he didnt even have a clue what he was doing but could undoe the bolts for her. (big up him and apologies to everyone who got greasy mail )
Stu you must know what the future of the game holds as far as what demand will be in a few years and recon that should be what guides u as wether or not to encourage your daughter to follow in the same direction. But there is absulutelly no reason why she couldnt be better than u I mean at what age did u start to really get into it
Deffo wish her luck tho
Who knows maybe oneday ill be bringing my old jalopy up for a Stu and familly tune up

there's a lot more to mapping than making the most power though. this should not be the only way to judge a persons mapping abilities. we should also consider the fuel consumption, emissions, response, and most of all reliability.

Thanks for the great input here guys, much appreciated by me (And IMA im sure )
As said, mapping is easy, its just laptop knowledge and if your computer litterate i can teach you to map, but the changes to be made require extensive background knowledge in teh way engines work, why they work etc.. simple things like this are NOT known by mechanics or vehicle technitions that ive ever met.. EG:
What Happens to spark advance when we improve VE?
Why do we need to fire before TDC?
What angle do we require combustion to be maximised by?
What is PCP?
What AFR do we need for light acceleration?
What AFR do we need for Max acceleration?
What EGT is maximum for an OEM manifold & turbo?
What EGT is max if we have a low nickel content non OE manifold?
Why may we make less power with more fuel and boost? When may we have to turn it down a few psi?
All the above are very very basic concepts that you CANNOT map without fully understanding and yet sadly, ive never met a "Mechanic" who would know the answer to ANY of them that i recall" Its not required information.
Also, Catherine DOES want to be building race engines too, and mapping them herself when finished, this is not just a mapping topic for her
Im surprised we have no female input.. maybe im wrong in that aspect afterall!!

You're not wrong in that aspect, but sometimes us females have to WORK
Being your daughter will "help" her out a bit I think. People know you and as long as you won't start blowing up people's engines she will have her last name to back her up.
I wouldn't be worried at all leaving my car in the capable hands of a woman...
How do you choose the person you trust enough the let him/her tune your car? You read some stories about people who had their car tuned. Then you decide which you think is best for your car.
If she's good, she'll have good comments so no problems there.
There will always be people that just don't want a woman to tune their car, but just ignore them...
She'll do just fine...
Can I come to the "Stu School for Engine Mapping" aswell??
